NIALL
"I'll see you on Friday kids" the professor said dismissing the class.
Niall quickly stood up from his seat, just leaving his things behind to go to talk to the professor. He had never in his life done that, he usually liked to stay under the radar, just blend in with the rest of the class, and hope to pass the class.
"Professor Fuller?" Niall said as he reached the old man who was putting away his things.
"Are you Irish?" he asked looking up at him.
"Uhm, yeah" Niall nodded a bit confused.
"I know an Irish accent when I hear one" the old man chuckled "You're in this class, right?".
"Yes".
"I think I have never heard you speak during the class, I would have noticed that accent before" Prof. Fuller said.
"I'm not really a talker" Niall excused himself.
Niall never asked questions in class, and he never raised his hand to answer questions either (and it's not like he usually knew the answers), and Prof. Fuller was the kind of teacher who didn't force anyone to participate (Niall loved those kind of teachers), so of course Niall had never spoken in his class.
"What's your name son?".
"Niall Horan".
"Well Mr. Horan, what can I do for you?" the professor questioned.
"I was wondering if there's any way I could do something to get my grades up a little" Niall said hopeful.
"What do you mean?".
"I did poorly on the test, so I was hoping you could give me extra work or something to make up for that".
The old professor frowned, picked up his glasses, opened his briefcase, took a folder from it and started looking at some papers.
"You're right, you didn't do very well on the test" Prof. Fuller said as he looked at a page "And you didn't turn in the essay".
"I didn't" Niall acknowledged.
"What happened?".
"Uhm..." Niall rubbed the back of his head, he didn't really have a good excuse "I... well... I kind of had a lot in my mind... and I guess...".
"You forgot?" Prof. Fuller asked raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah" Niall said defeated.
The professor sighed, he put the folder away and took off his glasses.
"If you do well on the next text, you can still pass the class".
"But maybe I could do something to get extra credit, to make sure?" Niall tried.
"Mr. Horan I rarely allow students that opportunity, and when I do it's for students who I see are at least putting an effort in the class" Prof. Fuller replied "But you didn't turn in an essay, not even two lines on a piece of paper, from what I just saw on the attendance sheet you've only come to half of the classes, and when you do come, you don't participate".
Niall bit his lips and just looked at the professor, he knew he was screwed.
"Why should I give you an opportunity if you're not showing me you deserve it?" the professor asked.
"Because I need to pass this class" Niall explained.
"If you need to pass this class like you said, why didn't you put in more effort before?" Prof. Fuller wondered.
