The duo were the last, only Cato and Thresh were left.  The two then thought that maybe it was time to start working more on combat rather than survival now at this point, so they headed to the Cornucopia.  Suddenly, they heard a cannon go off.  They looked at the nightsky, seeing Thresh's face show up.

"No..." Katniss said, "...nothing can take him down..."

"Don't forget, Cato's best with weapons." Gale said, "Not even Thresh can survived."

They eventually got to the Cornucopia.  There, they spotted Cato.  He looked hurt, not physically, but emotionally.  He was closer to the Cornucopia while Katniss and Gale were both at the edge of the treeline.

"So, we're the last three." he said.

"Yeah, so we are." said Gale.

"This how I die?"

"Getting your butt kicked by 2 District 12 tributes?" Katniss asked, rasing her bow.

"You'd cheat to do this?"

Gale could then see that Cato wasn't that guy who was volunteering for this.  He looked like a scared little boy who had just wanted to go back home.

"Katniss," Gale said, "let me handle this."

"No, Gale," said Katniss, looking at Gale, "he's too good with weapons."

"I'm not gonna destroy his honor, Katnip."

The two got their stances ready.  They then began to fight.  Gale deflected Cato's strikes as best as he could.  He was then kicked down soon.  Cato got ontop of him.

"Looks like I win." he said, raising his sword.

"Nooo!" Katniss screamed, raising her bow.

Cato got off of Gale.  The arrow seperated the two.  Katniss fired again, but Cato dodged.  Before Katniss could attempt to shoot him again, Cato swung his sword, cutting her bow in half.  Katniss fell as she felt Cato punch her in the face.

"Hey!" Gale shouted from afar.

He then grabbed Cato and threw him down to the ground.  The two began to rumble.  Katniss then punched Cato a few times before the District 2 male tribute kicked him down once again.  Katniss then looked at her bow, while the bow itself was sliced in half, the string was still intact.  Katniss then looked at the trees, then back at Gale and Cato.

"They're close enough." she to herself.

Katniss stabbed the ends of her bow on two trees on each side of her.  It looked like very much more like a windlance now at this point.  She then readied her bow with her last arrow.  Just before Cato could stab his sword through Gale's abdomen, Katniss let go and the arrow flew into his skull.  He then fell, dead, not even flinching.

"You okay?" Katniss asked, almost crying.

"Yeah." replied Gale.

A Few Minutes Later...

The two waited.  There was another cannon shot, but no hovercraft to take them back to then Capitol, back to home.

"Why aren't they announcing us as victors?" Katniss asked.

Suddenly, Seneca Crane then came on the line, saying that they're switching back to the original endgame; Only one victor.  Gale's face was filled with pure anger.

"I'm not giving up." he said.

The two then started heading out to the cliffs that they discovered sometime ago.  Although, they had to sleep right now.  They camped there for the rest of the night.  Gale woke up to Katniss crying in her sleep.

"Katnip, you okay?" he asked, shaking her asleep.

"I-I'm so sorry, Gale..." Katniss replied, resting her head on her chest, "...I just don't want to lose you."

"You won't I promise."

The two began to talk to each other to pass the time since sleep didn't even sound so helpful.  Gale offered Katniss to sleep in his sleeping bag.  She of course got in.  The two then fell asleep.
