[at home, kaveh's pov]

kaveh stood in the kitchen and read a note that alhaitham made beside a plate of sandwiches.

i made these for you to eat. i went out to sort files at the akademiya, hopefully it won't take long. finish the sandwiches, and don't try to run away.
- alhaitham

"so that was why i couldn't find him," kaveh nodded to himself as he put the note down and took the plate of sandwiches to a nearby seat.

as he ate, he thought about what to do today. a part of him said to escape while the house was empty, but the other part of him said to laze around the house. he decided to choose the latter, of course.

he has been feeling much better lately, all thanks to alhaitham. he tried to be so gentle with him, it sometimes even made kaveh laugh as he thought about it.

the words that came out of his clients word could still be heard by kaveh. it may all be imaginary, but it was somehow stitched in his brain which made him believe that he was what all the bad things his client said.

kaveh had a decent reputation and was admired by many kshahrewar students, either from below or above his scholar years. he even got the title 'the light of kshahrewar', but it didn't really help him much after he graduated. he thought that he'd get many business offers here and there, but it's the complete opposite—he had to work day and night just to earn a satisfied client.

though, not one soul knew that kaveh went bankrupt and had to live with alhaitham. it would ruin his whole profile, which he didn't want to happen.

then the thought of his sister came to mind. the last time he saw him was on his visit to mondstadt back when he was still at the akademiya. at that time, she even seemed to be indifferent towards his existence. he really hoped she was doing well.

why don't i send her a letter?

kaveh quickly finished his sandwiches and got up to alhaitham's working table in his office. his own table was still a bit messy, and although alhaitham made it clear that he didn't want kaveh around his work let alone his property, kaveh was sure that now would be an exception.

he grabbed a parchment of paper and a quill along with the ink. he took a second to think about what to write, and all of a sudden the letter was finished.

my dearest sister,
hi! it's me, kaveh. still remember me? your brother? i hope you do.
how are you doing in mondstadt? i'm sorry i haven't been able to visit you in a very long time.
i haven't been doing well lately, i had to face an annoying person. i wish i could tell you about it all but it'd take too long and too much if i wrote it all here.
do you miss me? if you do, please let me know if you'd like me to visit you sometime in mondstadt.
from now on, i'll try to send you letters more often. i don't mind if you end up burning these letters, i just want to talk to you, even if it's a one-way chat.
i hope to see you again some day, fischl.
with love,
kaveh.

he sat back in satisfaction as he read through the letter once again. he hoped that the letter would actually reach her, though. sumeru to mondstadt was pretty far, so he wouldn't be surprised if the letter got lost on the way.

without wasting more time, he got up from his seat and went through alhaitham's desk to find a place to seal the letter and send it off to the post office.

kaveh smiled to himself as he got out of alhaitham's office and placed the letter on the table in their living room. he was a bit lazy to go outside to send the letter, so maybe he'll ask alhaitham to do it for him later.

he sat on the sofa and closed his eyes in content. without him realizing, he fell into a deep slumber, peacefully. he didn't even notice that alhaitham had already arrived, holding a bag in his hand.
