OKAY HOLY OH MY GOD. I KNOW THERE HAS BEEN A LOT OF WRITERS NOTES LATELY BUT I GOTTA TALK ABOUT THIS. So, Bloody Nose is officially ranked #27 in the MaxMayfield tag. When posted my first chapter, Hawkins, the story had only gotten like 3 reads and now I'm here with 1.4k reads and 100 votes. This is honestly unbelievable and I'd love to get enough exposure to be able write original stories. Again, thank you all so much because I cannot believe any of this is happening.
Though I hadn't spent the night at my home for the past few days, I had snuck in through my bedroom window to grab fresh clothes and to feed my kitten, Meatball. I felt bad leaving him there alone (since like chapter two but we don't gotta talk about it), but I made sure his needs were met. It was sad sneaking into my own house, but familar none the less.
Max and I stand in the middle of Old Cherry Lane, right between our two houses. Something lingers in the air between us, something heavy, something unspoken. A yellow glow shines out the windows of my house and I immediately know my mom is home.
Max stares at the light emmiting from my house. She sighs and looks at me, the light highlighting the dark blood on her face.
"If anything happens please come over," She says to me. We're standing so close that I have to look up to meet her gaze, the same gaze I immediately break away from. "Ellis Shire I swear to God if something happens, please, just please come,"
The moonlight creates a glint in her desperate eyes. I sigh, my shoulders rising up, then down as i do so.
"Okay, if something happens I'll come,"
And then like that we part our ways. Though I had been sneaking through my bedroom window, today I walk right through the front door. Standing at the kitchen counter was mom, cigarette between her fingers and shotglass of whiskey in her hand.
The glassiness in her eyes showed that this wasn't her first drink of the night. As I walk into the house the smell of smoke hits my nose and mom sets down her cup with a clink.
"Where the actual hell have you been! The woman starts screaming, "You have not been home for days!"
"I dunno," I mumble as I turn left to my room. My mother stomps towards me and grabs my shoulder, I immediately whipped around to face her.
"You're covered in blood! Don't you think I get worried about you!"
"God don't act like you care about what happens to me! You never bothered calling the cops because you know they'd throw your ass in jail for child endangerment as soon as I start talking!" I shout back at her. That anger that has been held in me for years is unleashed. That woman has spent my entire lifetime self medicating and neglecting me. I mean when some psychopath tried to kill me, she had no idea I was at the school in the first place. God forbid that I prefer to spend my time with someone that actually cares about me.
"You ungrateful piece of shit! I have done so much for you and you turn your back on your own mother. You know most kids care about their mothers," Mom screams and I know that each word she says is absolute bullshit.
"Oh I'm sorry," I yell sarcastically, "I didn't know I was supposed to be grateful for an alchoholic parent who cares more about herself then herself then her own fucking child!" My mouth is suddenly running like an engine fueled by anger. I just witnessed one of my best friends almost get strangled to death and the last thing I need is this monster of a woman making my day even worse.
"Oh I guess I'm such a horrible mother," She says, only looking for attention, for pity.
"Yes! Yes you are!" I shout, halfway laughing at how ridiculous the whole situation is.
