AUTHORS NOTE: Hello! I'm sorry for all of the authors notes lately however I need to clarify a couple things in this chapter. This is based around season 3, but at that time the gate isn't opened. I'm kind of changing it up a little so that the gate wasn't entirely closed so things can still get out. This is only because I need a good way to introduce Ellis into the storyline. Also I don't want the entire fanfic to just be pretty much reading the script for the stranger things show. Anyway, enjoy reading!
Everyday that following week I found myself hanging out with Max Mayfield. The redhead seemed to make the bad thoughts vanish, as if they were just mere memories.
A loud banging jolts me upright from the warmth of my bed. I put myself on my knees and open my blinds to find the one and only Max peering back at me. I slightly sigh because it was 8:30am and I want to sleep.
I reluctantly open my window and the girl flings herself into my room.
"C'mom Dustin is going to be here in an hour!" Max says while dashing to my closet because she says I apparently move to slow when I'm tired, so she takes it upon herself to set out my clothes.
I'd never met Dustin. Apparently he'd been at science camp all summer, so Max and her friends were going to surprise him when he gets back.
"Are you sure I'm not like invading in this moment?" I feel like it would be weird for some random girl he doesn't even know to just be there.
"Relax, the party voted on it," Max says while looking through my shirts. The sounds of hangers smacking against one another sound as the girl impatiently shuffled through the closet. "You need a better wardrobe,"
"I'm poor," I say chuckling.
"I'm poor too and yet I still look great,"
"Are you inferring that I'm ugly," We both collapse, laughing. We tend to poke light-hearted fun at one another. In fact, all of Max's friends were wired like that as well so I felt like I fit in almost perfectly.
"Aha!" Max says while pulling out a white short-sleeve collared shirt. She matches it with a pair of baggy jean shorts and sets both in front of me.
I head across the hall to my bathroom. I put my clothes on and run my fingers through my hair a couple times. I decide to keep it down today.
I notice my moms lip gloss sitting on the counter. My thoughts drift to Max in my room. She's probably sitting on my bed, the sun bouncing of her hair. The yellow tank top perfectly complimenting her skin. I try to shake the thoughts away.
I wonder if Max thinks about me the same way. I doubt it. Girls aren't supposed to be like this. I look back at the lipgloss and hesitantly unscrew the cap and apply a layer to my lips.
I place it back in it's original spot. Ever since I met Max I've been taking care of myself slightly more.
I've been showering significantly more, even though it puts me into a massive panic I don't know how to react to. I've never really cared what people have thought of me, but suddenly with Max her opinion matters more than anything.
Despite everything I am still extremely critical of the person who stares back at me in the mirror. I will never be up to my own standards.
I leave the bathroom to find an impatient Max. She starts pulling me out the front door, into the street. We're both running, her hand grasping tightly to my wrist.
"Max, Max! You seriously don't expect us to run all the way there!" I slow down while trying to catch my breath. She slows down as well.
"Sorry, I got excited,"
