Eddie looked suspiciously up at the massive animal in front of him. He didn't trust it. He didn't know how Dani could so easily. This was a powerful beast, a beast that could easily crush him if it wanted to or toss him like a rag doll. It was only his immense love for Dani that was getting him to do this because everything in him wanted to say, no way, and run back to the van.

The guy had told him about a place called Cedar Crest Stables. It was technically not in Albuquerque but in a town called Cedar Crest, but it hadn't been that far of a drive. He had talked about the amazing views as you rode through Cibola National Forest and saw the Sandia Mountains. It had sounded perfect at the time, but now Eddie was thinking maybe he should have suggested a hike. He trusted his own feet a lot more than a nine hundred pound beast.

But no, he was doing this for Dani. Dani who had agreed to meet his mom with him without a second thought. Dani who, even though she probably knew it was a bad idea, hadn't tried to talk him out of it. Dani who had comforted him when it all inevitably went to shit. Dani who hadn't even been angry with him when he'd disappeared for four hours and then returned as a drunken mess with some stranger. She'd just been worried, just wanted to make him feel better. He owed her this and so much more for the way she'd been there for him.

He looked over at her, her eyes sparkling with delight as she ran her hand along her horse's neck, speaking something softly to the creature. God, she was beautiful. The sun danced through her dark curls, highlighting the red highlights that were naturally there but only appeared in the summer, looking so tempting in her jeans that hugged every curve and her cut off Bon Jovi tee, cowboy boots on her feet. Bon Jovi, ugh, but just one more thing he would gladly endure for this girl that he loved so damn much.

He didn't know how he'd gotten so lucky

He didn't know how he'd gotten so lucky. He still didn't quite believe it. Why would she stay with him? Why would she want him when she could have anyone she wanted? He'd seen the way guys looked at her. Dani was completely oblivious to it, but Eddie saw and he wanted to punch every single one of those bastards for eyeing up his girl. He knew it was his own insecurities. He couldn't seem to get past them but he was damn sure going to try because she insisted that she was his forever and he wanted to believe it so badly. He wanted those words to be true more than he'd ever wanted anything in his whole life.
