This is a sequel to my story, Girl Crush. Eddie did it! '86 was indeed his year! He graduated and now him and Dani are headed off on their grand adventure for the summer. They are heading west in his van and hitting all kinds of stops along the way...
"Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday my beautiful Dani! Happy birthday to you!"
Dani groaned, wincing as the obnoxiously loud singing woke her from her sleep. Opening one eye, she found Eddie standing by the bed, his guitar in hand, far too bright eyed and bushy tailed for her as she was just rousing. He grinned, setting his guitar gently against the wall in their motel room before leaping on top of her in the bed, causing her to shriek.
"Jesus Christ, Eddie," Dani laughed as he covered her face and neck in kisses.
"It's your birthday!" he yelled, bracing himself with his hands on either side of her head, smiling softly down at her.
"I am aware of that, thank you," she replied, "but you could let a girl wake up just a bit before scaring the hell out of her."
"But this is your first birthday with me as your boyfriend," he argued. "I have to make it special." Leaping from the bed, he walked over to the small table in their room and spun back, opening a box and displaying its contents. "Donuts! I know how you love your breakfast pastries so I went to the donut shop down the street." Turning back around, he produced a to-go cup of coffee, holding it out in front of him. "And your coffee, just the way you like it."

A soft smile played at Dani's lips as she took in the sight of this man, who she loved more than life itself, rousing from bed early, something he hated, to go and get her favorite breakfast because it was her birthday. Add to that his excitement over her special day and she was shocked to find she wasn't a melted puddle of goo in the middle of the bed.
"Eddie," she crooned, pulling the blankets back and standing up. Making her way to the table, she pressed a kiss to his lips before selecting a donut and sitting down. "You are just the best, the sweetest, the most thoughtful boyfriend ever. I don't know what I've done to deserve you."
"You're you," he answered simply with a shrug, grabbing a donut and joining her. "Dani, I will celebrate you every single damn day because you are worthy of celebrating."
She laughed, shaking her head, "Well, donuts definitely make for a good birthday. Thank you."
"Oh, the donuts are only the beginning," Eddie announced, wiggling his eyebrows. "I have the whole day planned, princess. So, get ready because it's an entire day of celebrating the amazingness that is you."
"I thought we were heading to Durango," she replied in confusion.
"Tomorrow," he explained. "We can head to Colorado tomorrow. Tomorrow you can ride a train and explore downtown Durango and see that hotel that used to be a pharmacy and is now a museum or whatever. Today, I have other plans for you."
Dani wiped her hands and mouth as she finished her donut, "Okay. I leave myself in your capable hands then."
"Sweetheart, I was so hoping you'd say that," Eddie smirked, reaching into his back pocket. When his hand came back up, his handcuffs were dangling off his fingers, a wicked smile on his lips, his tongue poking out as he wiggled his eyebrows at her.
