This is a sequel to my story, Girl Crush. Eddie did it! '86 was indeed his year! He graduated and now him and Dani are headed off on their grand adventure for the summer. They are heading west in his van and hitting all kinds of stops along the way...
Dani and Eddie walked over a small red bridge, heading toward the reflecting pools on the other side of Lincoln Nebraska's Sunken Gardens. They had found a secluded place to park the van and sleep last night before driving into Nebraska this morning. It had been a night of fitful sleep for Dani, images of creepy children asking her to play had haunted her all night.
Eddie had teased her mercilessly about running away from two sweet little girls. And yeah, she knew she overreacted. Those girls were probably just on vacation with their family and being kind. But there was something about being in that place, and Eddie's stories of ghosts, that had her on edge. And come on, twin girls ask you to come play with them in the hotel from the Shining? Who wouldn't run away? Maybe it was nothing, but she preferred not to find out, especially after he told her about that floor being for employees and their families. Maybe Stephen King had seen two little girls and that had inspired him.
But now, the sun was shining bright, and they were walking through the most colorful place that Dani had ever seen. Brilliant flowers of every color imaginable surrounded them everywhere they looked. It felt like walking over a rainbow and Dani began softly singing to herself without even realizing it as they followed the path.

"Alright there Dorothy," Eddie mused, glancing over at her. His hand was tucked in the back pocket of her jeans, his thumb rubbing along the skin just above her waistband.
"Sorry," she laughed. "I was thinking how it almost felt like walking over a rainbow and boom, random song pops in my head."
"Yeah, you do that all the time," he told her with a grin. "You're constantly humming or singing." Dipping his head down, he pressed a kiss to her lips, soft and sweet, before pulling back with a grin. "It's adorable. It makes me feel like I'm living in a musical or some shit the way you set everything to song."
"Oh my god, wouldn't that be amazing?" she breathed, her eyes lighting up at the thought. "How much better would the world be if everyone just sang and danced? I wish I lived in a world where everyone randomly broke into song."
"Well, I was thinking of singing 'Off With Her Head'," Eddie told her with a smirk.
Dani's nose crinkled, "Well, that took a dark turn."
He chuckled, waving his arm around them. "Because this place reminds me of Alice in Wonderland with all the roses and the bushes. So, you know..." He shrugged.
"Ahh, that makes so much more sense than you just randomly thinking of decapitating someone," smiled Dani, tucking herself against his side. "That makes me feel better. I was beginning to think I was dating a sociopath."
"Nah, not a sociopath," Eddie replied, shaking his head. "I have many neuroses, sweetheart, but that's not one of them." Peering down at her, he stuck his tongue out, his eyes wide, a grin stretching from one ear to the other.
"You don't have to tell me," laughed Dani.
Eddie tilted his head, "So, what exactly makes these gardens sunken? I mean, I know they're not floating. Although, that would be fucking amazing. Can you imagine a garden with trees in mid-air and flowers just randomly here and there in the sky? There would be a path you could step on and then you would be floating too. Damn, that would be cool as hell. I want to go to those gardens."
