Eddie placed his sunglasses on his face as they approached the Besh Ba Gowah Ruins. They had decided to make a stop in Globe, Arizona after Eddie had found out about these ruins that in Apache meant 'the place of metal.' He knew it wasn't metal like he meant metal, but it felt like an omen, a sign that they needed to come and check it out.
It was a two hundred room, multistory structure made from cobblestones that had stood for over eight hundred years. There had been some restoration done over the years but they had kept it as close to its original build as possible. Eddie looked at it in amazement.
"It's crazy," he said to Dani. "People built this with the most basic tools and their hands and it has stood the test of time. We are standing where prehistoric people stood. It's like we jumped in a time machine or something."
"We're like Marty Mcfly," Dani responded with a laugh.
She looked absolutely adorable today in short jean overalls, a red tank top, and a baseball cap on top of her head. Her curls were pulled in a ponytail that was hanging out of the back of her hat. Eddie couldn't help but lean forward and press a kiss to her nose.
"Alright, but I am not trying to screw my own mother," he joked, raising his eyebrows.
"Fair enough, but you know it was his mother who was coming after him," she stated. "But at least his mom was sweet. I don't know why anyone would want to screw your mother. She's a..." Dani trailed off, pressing her lips together. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't say things like that. She's still your mom."
"It's fine," he assured her, smiling. "I love how riled up you get wanting to defend me. It's cute as hell. You may be small but you're scrappy."
"You know it," she snapped, nodding her head. "Nobody messes with my man."
Eddie chuckled, shaking his head and tossed his arm around her as they made their way toward the museum to buy tickets. Dani wandered around a bit while Eddie went up to purchase the tickets for a self-guided tour of the ruins. The guy handed him a map and he moved back to Dani's side, finding her admiring a diorama of the ruins.
"Look at this thing," she marveled, looking up at him, her eyes shining with excitement. "It amazes me what people were capable of with no technology. They had just basic tools at their disposal and they built this incredible structure with so many different rooms. And you're right...buildings fall all the time. Buildings that have been built with the best, newest tools but this, something that is hundreds of years old, still exists."
