Jōno had always been infatuated with Tetchō, from the moment they met in their first year of high school. Tetchō was everything he wanted in a partner - kind, intelligent, and with a sense of humor that always made Jōno's heart race.

But there was one problem: Tetchō was completely oblivious to Jōno's feelings. Despite Jōno's best efforts to drop hints or spend more time with Tetchō, it seemed like he was always just a friend to him.

Jōno tried to convince himself that he was happy just being friends with Tetchō, but the truth was that his heart ached every time Tetchō talked about his crush on someone else or went on a date with someone new.

Jōno couldn't help but compare himself to Tetchō's other crushes, wondering what they had that he didn't. He knew he was a good person, he had his own charm, but he couldn't seem to catch Tetchō's eye in the same way.

It wasn't until their final year of high school that Jōno finally mustered up the courage to confess his feelings to Tetchō. He poured his heart out to him, telling him everything he had been feeling for the past three years.

Tetchō was taken aback, his face flushing with surprise. "I had no idea, Jōno. I'm so sorry. But I just don't feel the same way."

Jōno felt his heart shatter into a million pieces, his eyes stinging with tears. "I understand, Tetchō. I just had to tell you. I can't keep pretending that I don't love you."

Tetchō reached out to grasp Jōno's hand, his expression filled with sympathy. "I care about you, Jōno. You're one of my closest friends. But I can't force myself to feel something that isn't there."

Jōno nodded slowly, trying to keep his composure. "I know. I don't blame you. It's just...hard."

Tetchō pulled him into a hug, holding him tightly as Jōno cried on his shoulder. In that moment, Jōno knew that he would always love Tetchō, even if it wasn't reciprocated.

Years later, Jōno looked back on his unrequited love for Tetchō with a mixture of fondness and regret. He had learned to accept that sometimes love wasn't meant to be, but he couldn't help but wonder what could have been if Tetchō had felt the same way.
