Meeting new people was never something Hyunjin would add to his life's calender. Especially when he was with Yeji. Out in public.
The long haired dancer has always being used to people looking at him differently. With the look of lust or disgust or both. And he never wanted the effects of those looks to be felt by his little angel. Being called someone without any character was something Hyunjin was accustomed to hearing. But he could never stand Yeji being called the product of his characterless existence. To be treated less than others became a part of Hyunjin's childhood as well as adulthood. Yet the thought of people treating his daughter that way made him want the burning core of the earth to swallow him whole.
And so, his only hope before getting married was not his husband to be kind to him. But that his husband will be kind to his daughter and not think of her as less than other child, just because of the kind of job her mother was engaged in. No matter what Hyunjin would shade his child from all the flames of unkindness even if it meant for himself to play with fire.
Thus, when he saw his daughter getting a different kind of treatment from his newly wedded husband, it was not a surprise for him to be shocked. For it was something unexpected. Something Hyunjin never even feared. Because it was something so beyond his imagination. Yeji was not getting treated like any other kid by Chan. She was the recipient of the most special treatment that Hyunjin could only try to comprehend.
On the day after the new, so called couple's marriage, after Chan had left for work and Hyunjin was done cleaning the kitchen counter, the dark haired dancer walked up the stairs to see if his daughter had finished taking her bath in her own room. The room that was right next to Hyunjin's, a room Yeji was exhilarated to have as only hers. When her eomma reached said room, his steps halted on the threshold and his eyes were filled with moisture at the sight they withheld. A room painted with pastel pink and purple, walls adorned with scenery, rainbow colored birds sitting on tree branches and butterflies dancing around green bushes. The ceiling had LED stars scattered all over it. At one corner of the room was a study desk, above it a cabinet filled with fairytale books. Near the table was a cosy little tent set up and beside it, against the wall was the softest looking bed with flower printed sheet spread over it. Cushions and plushies covered half of the bed, on top of which, Yeji in changed clothes was seated, playing with a cute wolfie plushie with the widest grin on her face. She was too busy giggling and chatting with her newly made plushie friend to notice her eomma- who stood by the door, his lips that tasted the salt of his gleeful tears were curved up in a hearty smile.
This reaction of Hyunjin was no different when he and Yeji were accompanied by the Chan to get the little girl's admission in her new (and in Hyunjin's terms "rich people") school. His cold hands fidgeting, his palms sweaty before he wiped them on his coat and held his daughter's hand. The girl was sat between her eomma and Prince Charming. Before the Principal of the school.
"Mr. Kim Namjoon, thank you again for willing to see us on such short notice. I know this year's admission period has ended. However, I request you to kindly consi-"
"Please Mr. Bang, you have already thanked me multiple times. We've known each for long enough to skip such formalities." The dimpled man (with spectacles that made him look smarter than anyone Hyunjin had met before) said.
"I do have some questions though." The smart man continued.
Hyunjin felt Chan's gaze on him. He looked back at the blonde, the older smiled reassuringly at him. That did help calm Hyunjin's anxiousness quite significantly.
