After I got out of the sheriff's department, I went straight to John B's. I knew they would be trying to get to him, whether it's the people that killed those guys or the police. I was hiding by the shed for a while, watching a car that was staking out his house. I saw John B walking up and I went behind him and covered his mouth. He immediately tried hitting me and we ended up on the ground.
"Shit, John B, it's me. It's Lyra." I turned his head towards the car and pointed at it. "See that? They're watching us." "Who?" "I don't know, we've gotta go now." We snuck through the marsh until we got to the HMS Pogue, we climbed in, and John B started it up as I undid the rope tying it to the dock.
"So, how was your day with Sarah?" I asked John B. He looked surprised that I knew, "I was going to tell you gu-" "John B, I'm friends with Sarah. It's chill." He looked relieved and then he told me about the crazy adventure that they had together. John B went and picked up JJ and I called Sarah, and she told me to come over.
"I'll catch you guys later," I said waving to the guys before heading over to Sarahs. JJ gave me a wink and then they both headed off. I thought about our kiss and everything else that had happened. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the kiss with JJ, but there weren't any feelings there. He was attractive and funny, but I didn't like him like that. I just didn't want to say anything and hurt his feelings, so I decided that I would maybe just try to distance myself.
I needed to focus on myself anyway, I mean I needed to find thirty thousand dollars. I got to Sarahs and knocked on the door, I wasn't expecting Rafe to open the door. "Hey, Trooper. You coming to midsummers?" I had no idea what that was, but I knew I wasn't putting up with Rafe right now. I shoved past him and saw Sarah talking to Wheezie and Rose. "Hey Wheezie, hi Rose." I gave Sarah a quick hug and sat next to her.
"I'm glad you're here. You can come with us to Midsummers, since Ward is getting coronated as Guardian of Knights of the Rhododendron." Rose said to me before she drank her glass of champaign and left. "I have no idea what any of that means, but I guess I'm coming to midsummers with you."
"We have a whole lot more to talk about than Midsummers." Sarah said pulling me up to her room. "Topper told me he pressed chargers and you got arrested?" She sounded super angry about it, mainly at Topper. "Yeah, well I'll get him back. Are you still with him or are you hopping on that John D?"
She slapped my arm and started laughing. "I like John B, a lot. My dad said I have to put on a happy face for tonight though." We made some more small talk while we did our hair and makeup. "You have a dress I can borrow, right? Cause I don't think they'd be chill if I showed up in sweatpants."
Sarah smiled and clapped her hands quickly as she practically dragged me over to her closet. Sarah had tons of different dresses, probably from the many rich people events she had to attend. I picked out a light blue dress, it was casual and cute, but the slit up the leg added just the right amount of spice.
