Once again, I woke up to the waves crashing against the shore. The surreal feeling would never get old to me. I packed my blanket back into the car and headed over to Heywards. It was really early in the morning so I knew Pope wouldn't be there yet. I greeted Heyward and then headed to the bathroom to freshen up. I changed into some tan cargo shorts, white crop top, and then my white converse.
Heyward gave me some tasks to do and I did them without making much conversation. He could probably tell something was off because usually I'm more talkative. If he couldn't tell before then he could definitely tell when Pope came in and we didn't speak at all. I glanced at Pope, hoping he had forgiven me, even though I felt like I didn't need to be sorry. My actions were a little crazy, but I was protecting them.
"I need these deliveries done today, and Lyra I need you to make those apologies." Great, so now we were going to be stuck on a boat with each other. Pope started to say something, but Heyward cut him off and told him, "No excuses, get going." So, we loaded the boat up with groceries in silence and then we left.
"We need to make this quick, I have plans." Is all Pope said to me. We made our way to the country club, and it was the same girl working. "I owe you an apology. I shouldn't have handled things the way I did." I thought the girl was going to piss her pants, she looked terrified at first. It took her a minute to process my words and she just nodded. She took the delivery and gave a small thank you.
One down, one more to go. We got back on the boat and on the way back I saw Sarah and Topper along with others doing beach cleanup. "Drop me off here, please." Pope slowed next to a nearby dock, and I jumped off and walked towards Sarah.
She saw me before Topper, and I waved at her. She said something to Topper and then walked over to me. "Any chance I could join you guys and do a day of apologizing?" "The more help the better."
We walked over to Topper, and he opened his mouth to say something, "Let her say something first, Top." Sarah said. "I'm sorry for being mouthy and hitting you, you didn't deserve that." He most definitely did, but I was trying to resolve our issues. "We don't have to be friends; I just don't want to get into a fist fight every time we see each other."
It looked like he was about to respond when Kelce yelled at us, "Yo, you guys look thirsty." We all took a sip of the mystery drink; I'm guessing maybe flavored vodka. The alcohol definitely loosened Topper up and soon we were all talking and even shared a few laughs.
"You're not bad for a pogue." Topper said.
"Probably because I'm not a pogue. I'm not from the cut, dude." Topper almost looked shocked at this information. Had he really thought I had lived here my whole life.
"Oh, shit. You're new?" I physically face-palmed, this guy was stupid. Sarah laughed at him and then looked at me shaking her head. After we got done with the beach cleanup, Sarah invited me over to her house. I nodded and by the time we got back, Sarahs little sister Wheezie was super messed up from drinking. "I'm going to help her, you can explore." Sarah said while holding back Wheezie's hair.
I was walking downstairs when I heard two male voices talking to each other. They were talking about generators and John B being more reliable. I guessed it was Sarahs brother and dad talking, I hadn't met either one before though. Her father threatened to make her brother live on the cut and was honestly just being really mean.
"You're almost twenty, Rafe. Go be useful somewhere." Her brother's name was Rafe, interesting. He stood up and I recognized him as the guy that I saw with Topper and Kelce yesterday, good genes definitely ran in the family. I kept walking, not wanting to be caught eavesdropping.
