I wake up to the sound of birds chirping and sun shining into my room. Life suddenly seems happier, more enjoyable. Better.
Nothing in history would over top this morning. I know it in my gut.I get out of the bed, and walk into the kitchen to get a fresh glass of water. My kitchen, my small, old kitchen doesn't appear to be that bad. The loud upstairs neighbor dog's barking isn't that annoying anymore. Everything is better.
I quickly get dressed, brush my hair and get out of my apartment, heading for the small cafeteria one mile towards the town's center where I get breakfast ever once in a while. Once in a while being the time when I'm on my best mood.
I am serious, when I say, that this day will be perfect.
~
A loud thud of one of my colleague's hands slamming against my desk following with a long complain about how boring the town is and there's no juicy and spicy drama, as she says.
''Yeah, well, that's Germany.'' I say, slowly letting my heart go back to it's normal beats.
''You'll never guess what I found out.'' My other colleague, Rory, comes into my small, overloaded cabinet and sits on the edge of my desk. I twist my chair, facing them with my body as well.
''What?'' I and Jane ask at the same time.
''Jacob Birmingham was last seen yesterday at the evening with a woman!'' Rory says, rolling her eyes.
Just as my heart was finally slowing down, it jumps right back up and I have to place my hand on my chest, so it doesn't beat it's way out of my chest. They don't joke when they say that it's impossible for celebrities to have a private life. But maybe it wasn't even me. There's a chance he saw a woman later that evening after I got back. I don't like that idea. But he's not mine, so it shouldn't matter.
''Who's she?'' Jane breaks into my thoughts with another hot topic question. ''Maybe it's not that boring in Germany, huh?'' She shoots me a look.
''It's unknown. The paparazzi has taken a picture of him and a girl, about five nine, ten ish, but only from one angle, where he's standing with his back and the girl is right in front of him, so you can only see her blazer's color a little.'' Rory has that picture in her phone and she shows me and Jane it. ''For once they could do the job right and save us some time with the mysterious girl by showing her face.''
My heart continues to beat like crazy. My blazer was emerald green. It would be perfect if I didn't have my hands lowered, because then the only outstanding part would be my Converse. My white Converse sneakers, the ones I'm wearing right now. I quickly slide my legs under the desk, hoping they didn't notice.
''Wait,'' Jane takes the phone and zooms in.
Maybe that's it. They'll find out who that mysterious woman is and will kill me now. Brutally. Maybe that's my faith.
''She's wearing a green blazer.''
Yep. That's it. I'm doomed.
''So?'' Rory doesn't appear to be on the same path Jane is on.
''We have to look through yesterday's social media posts and stories. That girl must've taken at least one photo of herself in that hideous blazer.''
Ouch. There's nothing hideous about that blazer. I've seen worse.
''That blazer is beautiful.'' I say, crossing my arms on my chest.
''Yeah, and that's why you're in sport's sector, babe.''
One of the million things I hate about this work. Terrible, terrible colleagues.
''She looks pretty though.'' Rory says, holding the phone and staring at the picture.
Thank you.
''Alright, to work, dear! We gotta find out the mystery of yesterday!'' Jane claps her hands, pulling Rory out of the cabinet and slamming the door, along with the sound of their footsteps fading away.
I lean back into my chair, releasing a breath. My head suddenly felt hazy and I felt the need for a fresh air. I get my coat and leave the office, leaving five pairs of eyes following me suspiciously.
I push the door and step out on the street. I take one big breath and close my eyes, letting the sun hug me from inside out.
I need a vacation. Long one. If I could book a ticket right now, where would I book it? Probably Thailand or Italy. Those have been my dream destinations since seventh grade - when my geography teacher left for a vacation and, actually, never came back from it. She stayed there, calling us on Skype at every geography lesson, and each time she would be in a different place showing different things about Thailand.
That's what I remember the best about secondary school.
If only I could go and never come back...forget about all commitments and work, leave everything behind and look only forward. I would-
''Hey.'' I hear a voice interrupt my thoughts. The voice.
''Hi.'' I say, after realizing, that I have been staring blankly at him.
''A good day, huh.'' He says, looking up to the sky.
''It is, yeah. I feel whole again. The sun has been hitting different lately.'' I say, smiling up to him.
''Right. And I thought this day couldn't get any better.'' He's holding a cup of coffee from a cafeteria, that is a mile and a half away from here. I recognize the logo.
''Where are you going?" I ask, my curiosity taking over my politely.
''Just walking. No where in particular.'' He shrugs. ''Wanna grab lunch?''
I didn't even realize that it's finally lunchtime. I'm usually way more hungrier around this time.
''Of course. You have something in mind?''
