William Swan, heir to a fortune built by his father Victor Swan. He was burdened to the life of fame being the son of the mayor and dead mother. His life was the way that anyone wished for their own to be yet he wasn't living his own dream. Everything he was pushing for was for his father's legacy instead of his own. He is currently twenty three years old, working his way through yet another year of course work. Doing one thing he hated the most, business. If it were up to the young man, he'd have a career in the aerospace industry. As he was writing down some notes, his phone pinged and lit up on his desk. He ran a palm over his face, tussling his fingers through his hair as a sigh slipped through his lips. He rolled his eyes and flipped his phone over to view the notification that had popped up and immediately his discomfort and stress washed away.
"Mags"
The one notification that he looked forward to. His smile grew as he read over the text. "What're you doing tonight?" He read, bringing both hands to the device to type a response.
"Same as always. Coursework. What are you up to beautiful?" He sent it quickly and stared at the screen of his phone as if he'd miss the incoming messages if he looked away. You may be wondering how William Swan knew such a girl as Maggie Greene but the answer was quite simple. His sister, Alison Swan is Maggie's bestfriend, leaving their relationship in a particularly awkward place. They moved in secret, too scared to let Alison know the truth about where their relationship had taken its course. His phone pinged once more.
"Meet me at the fence line of the farm in 20 minutes." the message read, burning a bright red shade into William's cheeks. He sent a quick text back confirming he'd be there. The blonde haired man stood up quickly, closing the books that piled high on his desk. He shoved his phone into his back pocket and spun on his heels to exit his room. As he tiptoed down the hallway. It was the middle of the night and William was sure his father had passed out in some random woman's arms that night. He knew if he was caught he'd catch hell from the wretched man. He stopped in his tracks outside of his little sister, Lucy's, room.
He slowly walked over to her bed and tucked the blanket around her body and turned the lamp off that was perched on the nightstand next to her tiny bed. She stirred in her sleep, her eyes fluttering open slightly. A quiet groan could be heard from the young girl and William smiled down at her, "Hey munch. Go back to sleep, okay?" Lucy nodded and her eyes once again closed. For many years now, William was his sister's keeper. He protected the both of them from things they shouldn't see or even be a part of. When it came to his baby sister, Lucy, he was possibly a bit too over protective.
William stood back straight and left the room, now going to his sister, Alison's, room. When he arrived at the door, he noticed that she was still awake. Her back was turned to the door and she was laying on her stomach in her bed with her phone in hand, scrolling through whatever social media platform was trending. Will knocked on the door frame softly to gain Alison's attention.
"Hey Als. I'm going out for a while, could you cover for me if dad wakes up?" He questioned.
Alison sat up and crossed her legs, moving her hands to her lap as she looked up at her older brother. "Yeah, where are you going?"
William hated the fact that he'd be lying to his sister but that's what came with being with the person he loves. He wasn't one for secret relationships, in fact, he wanted to scream it to the world that he and Maggie were together. She wasn't just a fling or one night stand or something that was temporary. He wanted to marry her, it was something he'd planned on for a while. The ring sat in his bedside drawers awaiting the day he'd finally come up with the courage to ask that fateful question to the farmer's daughter. However, he knew his father would disapprove.
"I'm just going to Ricky's house, he's having a party and no you can't come." He lied, assuring that the girl wouldn't resort to asking to come along. She was quite the party girl and any chance she had to get completely wasted was a chance that she'd take.
Alison rolled her eyes and plopped back down on her back, "Whatever. I'll cover for you." She grabbed her phone and immediately went back to scrolling.
It was clear the two relationship dynamics were very different with each of his siblings. The one with Lucy was more protective and caring whereas the one with Alison was filled with aggravation and annoyance as they'd grown older. Of course he still loves Alison , they were just so close in age that it made things harder.
William snuck quietly through the house and out of the door to his car. He started it up and texted Maggie quickly before placing his phone in the console and driving off towards the farm.
