From atop a horse, Horror looked at the ruins of the village. Another casualty of the ongoing war. The battalion leader rode out to him.

"Gather your men, we leave as soon as possible," the leader said.

Horror nodded. He was a good solider, always following orders without questions. That had helped him quickly move up ranks.

They didn't usually stay after a battle, but it had been late and so the army slept overnight at the ruins. Townspeople walked around them, starting to clear the rubble, but there were no supplies. No food, nothing to actually help the construction along.

Still, he gathered the troops. A few were missing, several more were dead, but that wasn't of concern to him. Life just worked like that, some people live, some people die. Horror had come close to death himself, nearly getting stabbed by the opposing army before a fellow soldier nearby threw a brick at the attacker.

It was luck, he supposed. Everyone had always said there was some higher purpose to who lived and who didn't but Horror didn't believe that, it was simply luck.

And as the troops moved out, he gave a glance back at the ruins, and for once, began to question.

-
Horror had never been particularly friendly, but that didn't seem to phase this group at all. He had sat by himself, but then Killer sat down beside him.

"Hey, saw you sitting and thought I'd join you," Killer said, somehow totally oblivious to the general 'I hate people' vibe that Horror gave to people.

He waved over Error and Dust. Great, two more.

Dust gestured at Horror. "We're sitting with him? I feel intimidating. Nice."

Horror was annoyed, he was just trying to eat in peace.

Killer scarfed the food so quickly and messily that Horror was almost surprised he didn't accidentally eat the bowl.

Soon, Cross also joined them, sitting down between Dust and Killer.

They were a strange bunch and unwelcome here.

"I've killed people before," Horror said as casually as possible, trying to intimidate the others. Unfortunately, it didn't work.

"Same," Dust said.

Killer flopped onto his back, laying down. "That's how I got my name."

How did he think it was going to work, his name is Killer. That should have been seen coming from the horizon.

They were making themselves comfortable now, great.

"I'm a pirate, it kinda comes with the territory," Cross added.

They all looked at Error, expectantly.

Xe spoke, hesitating at first. "I-it wasn't really on purpose, but I collapsed a building."

"Accidentally?!" Dust asked.

The rest of the group was just as surprised, how does one accidentally collapse a building, presumably with people inside.

Error was more embarrassed now. "Well, I'm not entirely sure how it works, but my powers allow me to destroy solid objects with strings that I shoot from my fingers. It doesn't work on everything, but most things work."

Killer sat back up. "That is so cool."

Xe seemed very surprised at that reaction. "Really?"

"Yeah, that's freaking awesome," Dust said. "I meant to say ducking. No, puck. What the truck?! This is pissing me the skunk off." He was getting way more angry the longer this went on. "That's not even close!"
