Vada's pov:

We hear a few high pitched screams.
-"what was that?"
We hear another bang sound and I instantly recognize it as gun fire. We hear it again.

BAM

I jump a bit. Holy shit this can't be happening.
-"get down! Get down!"
We hear a man's voice yell from the hallway. Acting upon instinct I grab Mia by her wrist and dash off into a stall. Under different circumstances I'd be quite flustered but I can't think right now I can only hear my heart pounding from fear.

Mia's pov:

This can't be happening. this can't be happening. This can't be happening.

What the hell is happening!?

Me and Vada get in the stall and she closes the door. We end up throwing my heels in the toilet so I don't slip and so we can remain quiet. I begin crying as we hear our classmates scream for their lives. I begin shaking uncontrollably.
-"we're gonna die"
I say in a quiet sob.
-"oh my god oh my god"
I say to myself, trying to stay quiet but unable to stop talking.

How is Vada so calm? Oh god we're gonna die.

Vada's pov:

It's all so surreal for a moment until finally for the fifth time we hear another shot.

BAM

It suddenly sinks in that this is real. That I could actually die right now. That any second someone could bust through that door and find me and Mia. And finally I begin to cry, softening my tears so as not to worry Mia more.

We hear the door open and sneakers slide across the floor and I can no longer keep quiet. Me and Mia both look at the door horrified and our sobs get louder as the other stall door opens. We're gonna die. We move closer together and one of Mia's earrings falls off.
-"who's there?"
We hear a man ask. Fuck. Mia looks at me terrified.

The guy sighs.
-"I'm not the shooter. It's Matt Corgan, I saw him"
He says, in a shaky tone. Suddenly we hear rapid fire like a machine gun. Mia rests her head on mine again and continues crying. The guy in the other stall starts crying loudly. Much louder than me and Mia had been.
-"my brother, my brother"
I hear him say in a sob. I take a deep breath so that I can speak normally.
-"slide over"
I say.

He gets on the floor and comes over. When he stands up I see there's blood all over his shirt.
-"oh f-fuck are you shot??"
He continues crying.
-"no no, my brother...my brother"
He says, shaking his head and then resting it on the stall. I watch him as Mia continues to cry into my shoulder. I just don't understand, why the fuck is this happening? Suddenly it's quite.

We hear the police announce that the shooters have been apprehended. We're safe. Mia pushes me off the toilet and begins throwing up.

Me, Mia, and remain in the bathroom for a moment to recover from what had happened. 5 minutes...the shooting lasted 5 minutes. My life changed...in 5 damn minutes.

Mia's pov:

I sat with police officers at the school watching as parents flooded the school to pick up their children. Because my dads are out of state some officers offered to escort me home.

When I enter my house it feels different. It's huge. It's always been a big house but now the walls seem to tower over me and the halls seem to go on forever.
-"will you be fine?"
-"ah y-yeah"
-"we've already contacted your parents, take it easy and try to relax"
One of the officers says as they leave.

Relax? Is he serious? My school was just shot up and I could've died!!

I begin crying again.
-"f-FUCKK!!!"
I yell out in a sob. I can practically hear my voice echo back to me.
-"I- I'm all alone"
I say, my voice cracking a bit as the tears flow down my face. I fall to the ground and curl up. I continue crying in a corner. The shooters have been arrested, I'm not at school, so why...why am I still so terrified?

Vada's pov:

I hear my sister open the door.
-"how was it?"
She asks.
-"Amelia!"
I hear my mom yell.
-"what?"
-"look your sister need to rest right now"
My mom says, grabbing my sister and closing my door again.

Eventually I get out of my room to eat and my parents eagerly sit everyone down at the table. It's quite for a moment until Amelia speaks up.
-"did you know him?"
She asks. I shake my head.
-"he follows you on instagram"
She says.
-"so..he knew you"

-"did you know he was friends with Melanie? So crazy"
Why won't she stop talking?
-"did you know anyone who died?"
-"Amelia.."
I hear my dad say.
-"what? Sometimes I'm like, what year are we living in? I'm literally gonna Amazon a bulletproof backpack"
She continues. Why can't she shut up? Does she not understand what the hell just happened?
