"Do you ever want kids, Brook?" The sudden question made him pause from taking a sip of his tea before placing it down gently back on its saucer. He looked at you and placed his finger on his chin.
"Well even if I wanted to have kids, I don't think I would be able to reproduce in the state that I'm in. I think that's for the best, imagine how terrifying my child would look! YOHOHOHO! Hopefully they wouldn't take after me in looks! YOHOHO!" Giggling, you took a sip of tea and smiled at the floor of the ship. A blush spread across your face, the image of a mini Brook running around The Sunny drawn in your head.
"How about you, (Y/N)?"
"Hmm?" As if you forgot about what you had just spoken about briefly not too long ago."Would you ever want children?" Your face felt hot and you started fiddling with your fingers. It's only fair that he asks, you asked first and he did answer. Of course you wanted children. Only when you feel the time was right.
"Yes." Your soft reply made him smile for a brief moment before feeling a bit sad. Immediately noticing his shift in mood, you turned to him and gave him a worried look.
"What's wrong?"
"Well..." His gaze went up to the sky where the stars were hiding behind dark clouds and the moon was barely peaking."I feel like I could confidentially say that, for starters," He looked back at you.
"We are a couple, right?" As if your face couldn't have gotten any more red. Brook and yourself had always shared a special bond. You had a deep love for the skeletal musician and it started the first day you met him. His personality was so different from that of the swordsman, the sniper and the cook. He was humorous, kind, positive and had always been there for you. The amount of times he had saved you from danger and kept you safe, you couldn't even count on both hands. He cared deeply for you as well. You always kept him company, fought for him and was always so sweet to him all the time. He made you feel special. Even with all of that being said, the two of you never officially had said anything regarding your relationship with one another. It had always just been an unwritten agreement, if you will. Having him ask such a thing made you absolutely flustered.
"Am I mistaken?" He asked in a concerned manner. You snapped back and shook your head.
"It's not that! It just... makes me so scattered thinking about it. Kind of like, butterflies in my stomach and clouds in my head." He chuckled and nodded.
"I was just asking because, we can't have a child, you know?" Even if he stated it before, the reality of his situation hit you and you froze for second. He's right.
"Yeah... I almost forgot." A sad giggle escaped your lips before taking another sip of the hot beverage. He knew it bothered you and felt quite upset that he couldn't give you a family in the future.
"I'm very sorry. I hope you know that if you ever decide to part ways to live your life the way you want to, I won't be upset or hold it against you." His words were like a smack to the face. You felt appalled.
"Brook." Your tone frightened him.
"How dare you say such a thing? There are other ways!" He was shocked by your response."Of course I would love to have a child with you. That has both me and you in their genes. However, it's not the end of the world. There are other ways." Your eyes held a glimmer of hope. Despite his age, you were still young and you weren't thinking about having a family any time soon anyway. It didn't bother him either to not have a family sooner rather than later.
"You're right." Your soft hands grabbed his thin slender ones, holding them sweetly. If he really wanted to ruin the moment, he would make a joke about his heart racing but then saying he didn't have a heart but he didn't want to spoil the mood.
"Brook... I... I love you..." He jumped slightly at the words that whispered from your lips. That was the first time you had ever told him you loved him.
"I-I love you too, (Y/N)." A satisfied smile painted on your face as you leaned towards him, kissing his boney cheek.
"Thank you."
