I pulled up to the day care, feeling a bit nervous about leaving my son there for the day. First day ni Stellvester, and I wasn't sure how he would do without me. But as soon as we stepped out of the car, my son's face lit up with excitement.
Oh, sino bang niloloko ko? Yakang yaka naman 'to ng anak ko!
"Papa, ang daming bata!" Teytey exclaimed, pointing at the other children running around on the playground.
I smiled at his enthusiasm. "Yep, marami kang makakalaro dito, anak."
We made our way to the door, and I knelt down to look my son in the eye. "Teytey, anak. Wag kakalimutan ha, magpakabait ka. Wag masyadong makulit okay? Saka hanap ka ng cute na kalaro ha? Wag mo awayin. Hahaha."
My son grinned up at me. "Syempwe Papa, mabait naman ako talaga ehh! Gusto nila lahat makipagplay saken saka i-fwiend ako po!"
I couldn't help but chuckle at his confidence. Manang mana sa ama niya, makapal ang mukha. Dejoke. He was right though, of course. He had always been a friendly kid, and I knew he would have no trouble fitting in.
We said our goodbyes, and I watched as my son ran off to join the other kids. Walking back to my car, I feel a sense of pride in my little boy. He was growing up so fast, and it was amazing to see the kind, outgoing person he was becoming.
I knew he would have a great day at day care, and I couldn't wait to hear all about it when I picked him up later. But for now, I was content to just watch him play and enjoy the simple moments of fatherhood.
