Josh and Ken arrived at the daycare and saw each other, exchanging worried looks.
"Uy, Ken." Josh started. "Nasan kaya si Tey? Usually, dito yun naghihintay eh..."
"Mr. Santos, I haven't seen Paulo either. They're not here?"
They couldn't see their children in their usual spot and they knew something was amiss.
As Josh and Ken walked into the classroom, they immediately noticed their kids in tears. "Tey? Nak, anong nangyare, bakit ka umiiyak?" Josh asked worriedly.
Teacher Justin motioned for them to follow him to the side of the classroom. "Mr. Santos, Mr. Suson. I'm afraid there was an incident earlier with one of the parents," he said solemnly. "They took issue with the kids playing wedding."
Both fathers looked at each other in confusion. "Playing wedding?" Ken repeated.
"Yes po," Teacher Justin replied. "Nagpaalam kasi sila sakin gusto raw nila maglaro sa garden at gumawa ng flower crowns at rings, naisipan po ng mga bata na magkasal-kasalan si Stell at Paulo. Unfortunately, yung isang father po ng classmate nila na maagang dumating was very upset about it."
Josh and Ken looked at their kids, who were still sniffling. "And this man proceeded to make our sons cry?" Ken asked.
"Ayun na nga po Mr. Suson, kung anu-ano ho ata ang nasabi sa mga bata," Teacher Justin said, shaking his head. "I had to intervene and ask them to leave."
"Anak ng..." Naiinis na sambit ni Josh. "Ang kapal naman ng mukha niyang amang yan! Sino ba siya para pagsabihan ang mga anak namin?"
Stell seemed to flinch at his father's raised voice. He looked up at his dad with tear-stained cheeks.
"Papa, sowwy po." Paghikbi ni Teytey. "Wag po kayo magalit Papa. 'Di ko po nisasadya. Saka ni Paupau po. Ayoko po maging bad."
"Shhh. Tahan na, Teytey ko." Josh knelt down next to Stell and took his son's hand in his own. "Hindi galit si Papa. Never magagalit si Papa dahil dyan, okay?" he said, his voice soft and loving as pulled his son into a hug.
"Alam mo namang mahal na mahal ka ni Papa, 'di ba?" Naiiyak na rin si Josh, God knows how much it hurts him to see his son like this. "Ikaw lang yung dahilan kung bakit nandito pa ako. Saka hindi ikaw bad, okay? Hindi kayo bad ni Paupau. Kung sino man nagsabi sa inyo nun, sila yung bad people. Kahit ano pa ang gusto maging ni Teytey, kahit ano pa si Teytey, love ka ni Papa, tandaan mo yan ha?" Sabi niya, habang pinupunasan ang mga luha ni Stell.
Ken also knelt down to comfort his son. "In case you're also worried, Jean Paulo. Daddy isn't angry."
Paupau nodded, his eyes shining with unshed tears. He had been trying not to cry again, especially as he felt that he needed to be strong to shield Stell since that man started yelling at them.
"I just don't understand why he was so mad at us, Daddy. Sabi niya bad daw po kami. Bad daw po yung game namin, Daddy, and Nico shouldn't play with kids like me and Teytey." he said softly. "I'm sorry for doing something bad. Bawal gawin yung ni-play namin ni Teytey po."
"Hey no, no, buddy." Ken replied, wrapping an arm around his son's shoulders. "Don't be sorry, please. You and Stell didn't do anything wrong, I promise."
Stell sniffled and wiped his tears. "'Di po bad yun?"
Ken reassured both kids. "Of course, kiddo. 'Di naman bawal yun dahil bad. Bawal yun sa inyo kasi, baby pa kayong dalawa ni Pau. It's just that some things are meant for grown-ups, like getting married. Like kami ng Papa Josh mo, we're grown-ups so it's okay to marry."
Suson...
Justin watched the tender scene with a smile on his face.
"Gusto ko lang po mag apologize sa nangyare kanina, and I want to make sure you both knew how much we value your children and their safety," he said, his voice full of sincerity. "Pero maiintindihan ko rin po kung gusto nyo na i-transfer sa ibang center si Tey at Pau."
Josh and Ken exchanged a look. "I think parang hindi na kelangan. Unfortunately, kahit sa panahon natin ngayon, marami paring ganyan." Josh said firmly. "Mas okay na dito namin sila naiiwan na alam naming may care ka sa mga bata, at much appreciated yung pag protekta mo sa kanila against sa mga mapanghusgang tao."
Ken nodded in agreement. "Ditto. Besides," he looks at Paulo, smiling. "I think my prince loves being in your class, right?"
Paulo nodded. "Yes, daddy. Teacher Jah is so nice and smart! Nituturuan niya din kami mag read saka po ni build niya yung house namin ni Teytey!"
"Teachew Jah likes my dinosaur dowings!" Stell adds.
"Aww. Kayo talaga. Kaya love ko kayo eh." Teacher Justin smiled gratefully. "Thank you Mr. Santos and Mr. Suson, it means a lot to me. I just wish there was something more I could do to protect them."
Josh put a hand on his shoulder. "Wag ka mag-alala. You're doing enough, Sir Jah."
