Severus nodded hesitantly to Lupin while he dropped Lily's hands and got up to sit by Rosier – the other Slytherin prefect – who had just sat down by the door and was watching Severus with cautious eyes, "Lucius must have told him about my Death Eater status at Diagon Alley," Severus thought as he sat next to his fellow Slytherin who was a wild card. Severus had no clue if he wanted or didn't want to be a part of the Death Eater's "noble" and "righteous" quest.

He sat back readying himself for a nap, because he – everybody – already knew the yearly discussion that was always the same, so much so he could quote it word for word. "Alright," Lupin started out once all of the prefects were still in their seats. "First things first, it's good to see you all again and obviously Lily and I were made Head-students." Severus was mouthing what Lupin had just said.

A stern look came over his normally calm face, "If any of you slack in your responsibilities, you will lose your badge faster that you can say Hogwarts." He looked them all in the eye, lingering a few seconds on Rosier.

"Great, now we can get started," Lily said, breaking the silence, "Remus and I have changed a few things, so no napping." She directed that mainly at Severus, who she could see was nearly asleep, and smirked when sat forward and gave her a halfhearted glare, "Now that we're all awake, we can start..."

The meeting took nearly the entire train ride, so there was a mad scramble for the prefects to get up, get their robes and then to go to tell the students to get their robes on. Severus found an empty compartment and un-shrunk his things and pulled on his outer robe and placed his tie around his neck, not bothering to tie it and then set out for the Slytherin carriage. On his way down there, he ran into Lily, who was heading the opposite way, "Sev, there you are," she said as she began to tie his tie lovingly. "Are you heading for the Slytherin carriage?"

"I was on my way there," Severus said while tucking a lock of her gorgeous red hair behind her ear.

"Well I wouldn't want to keep you, Remus was serious about what he said earlier," she said, growing serious herself.

He smirked and said, "Then do let go of my tie so I can be on my way," her fingers loosened and she smiled, it was only then that he realized how close he was to her. He inwardly and outwardly smiled and said, "Unless you want me to stay here."

Lily laughed and smacked his arm playfully, "Go and tell your Slytherins to get their robes on," he smirked and left his best friend – correction, his girlfriend. A flutter in his stomach and a skip of a heartbeat made him think that he would never get used to that, nor should he, especially when Potter and (undoubtedly) plenty of other guys wanted Lily as their girlfriend. At that thought he sobered, never in a millions years would he have expected her to like him back. That aside, she obviously trusted him a great deal, and he would have to break her heart to protect her. And he knew that he wasn't going to be the first to do that, Lily had had boyfriends before him and he would spend many days over previous summers being ignored then being the shoulder that she would cry on when they dumped her, and he would tell her that they were no good, lousy, bleeders.

He was in a right foul mood when he made it to the Slytherin carriage, he hated the bloody Death Eaters and their Dark Lord, he hated that he had ever talked to them. He hated that they took his mother and ultimately killed her, but mostly he hated that in order to protect Lily he had put as much distance between them as possible, which meant he would have to break her heart, "Get your robes on," he snapped at a small second year who was still in Muggle clothing. Seeing a giant angry prefect towering over him, the kid scrambled back into his compartment and changed immediately into his robes.
