Sacrifice

The only thing Wu Xie could do as he freely fell into the darkness was to scream with all his heart, just like Pangzi and even Fairy Huo, for there was nothing to hold on to that could stop his fall into the endless abyss. The trap on the floor had been so sudden that they didn't have time to react, just fall to their deaths or who knows what else could be cold down there worse than death itself.

All he could do was wonder how they would die. Impaled on stakes or blades? Crushed to death by gravity? Blood zombies? Shibies? Poisoned water? Corrosive gas? None of them seemed like a way to end your life when you were still so young, but Wu Xie had chosen a path where any of those scenarios were possible as long as he went to any tomb raiding.

He wasn't sure which of them had trigger the trap, mostly because they were in a hurry trying to escape another monster, but giving his luck, he was almost sure it was him. So, even as he fall to his death, he was going to die with the guilt of killing Pangzi and Fairy Huo along with him and the regret of leaving Xiaoge alone in that cruel world and his family without another member, making their name lineage most likely coming to an end if his uncle Er Bai don't end adopting a heir on his own.

However, as he reflects on the things that he may never know the answer to in his uncertain future, what awaited him at the bottom of his fall, which despite feeling endless, was not as long as he had thought, was a sea of sand that actually softened his landing, only making him lose air on his lungs, but not really crushing him to death as he had believed.

It was the same for Pangzi and Fairy Huo, whom Wu Xie heard land with a loud tud sound and a curse from Pangzi.

"Damn it! Why do I always land on my feet in quicksand?!!!" Pangzi cursed as he struggled to get himself free from his sand prison, and as he did, they heard another strange sound, and a system of torches lightened up the new chamber they had fall in.

"Tianzhen!! Help me!! Quickly or I will sink completely!!" Pangzi yelled in desperation as he tried to go out of the hole that had swallowed him, and Wu Xie looked his way. He moved a few inches, expecting to sink as he did, but oddly enough he didn't, then he looked at the struggling Pangzi which seems to be sinking and realize that he was just struggling with the sand, thinking he was getting deeper into it.

But, were they really in quicksand? Wu Xie asked himself again as he lay on his chest on the sand that he had fallen into. Despite Pangzi's sinking, it didn't seem like he was sinking with him like he should, if it really was quicksand. Just to prove his point, he looked over to where Fairy Huo had landed, most likely unconscious because she was completely still, and she also didn't look to be sinking into the sand.

Perhaps it was simply that Pangzi just had landed on his feet, and his weight made him sink under the soft sand, giving the impression of quicksand. Thinking back, it was the same when they fell into the Huo's training ground not so long ago.

"Pangzi! It's not quicksand! Just stay still, and I will get you out!" Wu Xie yelled as he pulled himself up his feet and ran toward him, only slightly sinking, like you would on a beach.

"Not quicksand? You're kidding, right? I'm on it all the way down to my knees!"

"Relax, I will get you out in no time." Wu Xie told him as he lay flat on his stomach to try dig Pangzi out the same way they did in the Huo's training ground. However, as he dig Pangzi out, they hear Fairy Huo moan in pain, finally coming back to consciousness.

"I swear that old woman is a true demon with infinite life at her disposal. How is she still alive after being seriously poisoned, then falling from this high?" Pangzi asked as he looked her way, but only earned a hard look from Wu Xie.

"Stupid Pangzi! Don't joke with that! Even she deserves to live, for as long as she is fated to." Wu Xie reprimed his friend.

"You are too kind, Tianzhen. If it was up to her, you would have been dead a long time ago, and she would actually enjoy it." Pangzi tries to pull himself out of his hole with Wu Xie's help.
