Seonghwa always believed he had the shittiest of luck out of all of his peers, but he never knew it was this bad. He cursed at whatever deity was responsible for this as he trod down the rocky paths of the dense forest.
'Say, Chul Soo! Are you always this prickly, or is this a special occasion?' The same mellow voice hammered into his head. He scowled at Pearl, who was skipping around in front of him, all carefree and elated as if they weren't running away from royal guards that could kill them on sight.
You might be thinking, what exactly happened? Well, let me answer that for you.
As Seonghwa recovered from the shock of the girl in front of her being the King's future wife, he felt the weight of a sword on his shoulder. Wooyoung had approached him in a matter of seconds and perched the blade of his heavy sword right next to his neck. His warm brown eyes shone under the moonlight as they glared back at Seonghwa.
'Chose wisely, Chul Soo or whoever you are.' Wooyoung brought the blade even closer to Seonghwa's head. 'One wrong move and your head would be rolling down the same window you're standing on.'
'We're presenting you an opportunity on a golden platter here,' Pearl spoke up, her voice only a little higher than a whisper. 'Why hesitate?'
'Do you think I'm an idiot?' Seonghwa spat back. 'Why would the King's fiance want to help me, A spy from the enemy nation?'
'You might get surprised by the number of supporters you'll find here, pretty.' Pearl, tucked a strand of stray hair behind Seonghwa's ear. 'Everyone here is waiting for the perfect chance to overthrow the king and end this rule of terror be it either to start one of their own or bring peace. Including us, of course.'
'Join hands with us, Intruder. We're the best you could find here.' Wooyoung said.
'How can I trust you both?' Seonghwa pressed even further into Pearl's neck with no regard of his own which was oozing blood from the slight cut that Wooyoung's sword caused in the process. 'How can I know that you two won't turn on me the first chance you get?'
'I can tell you all the secret pathways of the castle that only the King and I know. How about that, pretty? Would that be enough?' That was a tempting offer, but still not enough for Seonghwa. If he had to include the two in his mission, he needed something definitive that would make the two unable to back out of it at any given moment. Something that would ensure that these two would not possess a threat to him or his team during the mission.
It seemed like Wooyoung had read Seonghwa's mind. He lowered his sword and sighed. 'Alright, I think I get what you want.' He pointed at the guards who were now out of the neighbour's house and heading straight towards the inn. 'How about we help you escape these buffoons? Would that make you believe in us?'
Seonghwa thought for a second and concluded, 'If there was an easy way out of this situation, then why not take it?' And so he nodded before adding, 'Only for now. You'll need to prove yourself multiple times before I fully let you into this plan.'
