The moment she was back in her apartment Chris tried EVERYTHING to get in contact with Amma. She knew it might be a bad idea, but she was going to phrase things in a way that didn't give away that her damn girlfriend was one of the monsters she was being trained to kill. Kill. The thought hadn't actually set in completely. This wasn't just some weird conflict, this was honest to got mortal enemies since the dawn of time.
She opened the book and tried to reach through the pages, nope, her fingers hit the pages like a brick wall. She tried to sleep waiting for Amma to whisper in her ear. Nothing. She even resorted to just shouting Amma's name out loud in her apartment, that didn't work but it sure did piss off her neighbours.
It was hours later, her clock reading 3am, and she was still pacing up and down her room repeating the same rituals of trying to summon Amma when she heard something in her kItchen. It was just the sound of a chair moving slightly across the floor. She knew that it was a sign though. She went and laid down on her bed and almost immediately sunk into her matters. Falling. Falling. Thud. The cold floor of the dungeon beneath her feet. She looked up, right into Amma's eyes. She didn't know why she liked staring her down so much. Was it a power move? Or was she just weird like that?
"Amma" she said, suddenly nervous
"Yes child?" she replied, voice tinged with curiosity "You have been trying to summon me all day. Why?"
"If you knew that, why have you been ignoring me?" asked Chris, annoyed as hell.
"My existence does not revolve around you alone, I was occupied" she replied nonchalantly.
"Fine, well, now that you're here or I'm here... I don't know but I have something to tell you and you're not going to like it" she rambled off
"Ah, you know" nodded Amma, "come, let's sit and talk"
Chris followed her across the dungeon to the room in the back. They each took a seat on opposite ends of the table. Chris was confused. What did Amma know. Why was she being so... nice?
"You have seen the monster" said Amma
"Yes, I have" replied Chris "well, I didn't because you ripped me away before I could get a good look at her... it"
Amma raised an eyebrow "her? You know the creature?"
"No, I mean... before you pulled me away I was just to see it transform from human to monster and it looked like a girl so... yes... her... I guess. But I don't KNOW her. Do you know who it is?"
"No child, I know not who it is, part of your purpose is to find them, or her in this case"
"What am I supposed to do if i find her?"
"Don't ask questions to which you already know the answer" replied Amma
"I can't just kill someone. This isn't the olden days, we're not in a war. I can't just walk up to someone and murder them"
" It is the way of the lord, my child, it is your purpose"
"It can't be my purpose" she cried "My purpose cannot be to KILL someone" her voice getting louder.
"Hysterical as you may be, it does not change your destiny"
"Don't fucking rhyme at me as if it makes it any better. I don't even believe in the bible or God or any of that why would I just go up to someone and kill them?? Isn't there another way?"
"There is one other way" she replied
Crying now, Chris begged "what is it? Please tell me what it is"
"Before I tell you anything, you had better apologize to our lord. How can you still say you do not believe when you have seen yourself transformed. It is not magic. It is through His power only"
"I didn't ask for this. I didn't want any of this. Why would I apologize for telling the truth? I haven't even had a moment to question my beliefs or rethink them, this has all happened so fast" she said, standing up and pacing now.
"Very well, there was one option the Lord gave those monstrous beings. There was a ritual that they could do that would rid them of their monster. They would become fully human, unable to go back to what they once were" the calmness in her voice driving Chris up the wall.
"Where can I find that ritual? How does it work?" she leaned on the table. Both hands flat, facing Amma head on.
"That I cannot tell you child, for I do not know. I wasn't given that choice, you see, I was a warrior, my only option was to kill. All I can tell you is that the secret is hidden in the great book. The original book."
"You mean the bible?" she rolled here eyes and started pacing again.
"Not the book you know as the bible. The original bible, before great cleanse by the humans"
"Where can I find it? Do copies of it even exist?" she stopped pacing to look over at Amma
"I cannot help you child, I have no answers, it is beyond my realm of knowledge."
"Shit, please Amma... you don't understand... I NEED that ritual" she pleaded "I lied before, I know the monster... not just know her. I love her. I love her more than anything. I can't kill her. Please help me" the desperation in her voice must have moved Amma, because she stood up and walked over to Chris.
Touching her shoulder she said "come with me child, we have much to discuss and a long way to go".
She took Chris' hand, led her out into the dungeon and out of a door that seemed to have just appeared. Chris had no idea where they were going or what was happening, but if it meant saving Ria, she was ready to face anything.
Anything.
