While Ria was off on her little secret mission, Chris decided it would be a good time to try and transform and practice control. She had memorized the ritual, the words, and the order when she laid down on her bed and got ready to start falling into the dungeon. Book in hand (just in case) she landed on the dungeon floor. Braziers once again lit, the dungeon looking like it had been waiting for her.
She had been wearing Amma's crucifix around her neck (her parents would be so proud) ever since she returned from the dungeon the last time. Now it was time to put it to good use. She sterilized it of course (just in case) and was ready to start.
She took a deep breath, whispered the words she once thought gibberish (but now knew to be ancient Hebrew),
"la ykvl lhyvt avr bly hvshk", and cut the alpha and omega into her palms.
She pressed her hands together as if in prayer and said the rest of the words
"ayn hvshk bly avr".
(There can be no light without darkness, there is no darkness without light)
Immediately she felt herself lift off the floor. The transformation had begun.
Chris spent what felt like ages in her ghost form. She practiced her sword appearing and disappearing. She could control all her actions, she could run to opposite ends of the room in a second, well less of a run and more of a float, she could do the disappear into mist and reappear somewhere else thing. It seemed like she had full control. But it all seemed too easy. She was starting to think that Ria's presence had something to do with it. That rage she felt must be what was keeping her from controlling herself when she was around Ria's transformed state.
She tried to imagine Ria there, tried to summon the rage within her, but her attempts were feeble. Starting to worry that she would have to do this with Ria in the room, Chris started the transformation back into her human self. She had had enough of this ghostly form for one day, and she got some pretty good training done too. Just as she was about to leave the dungeon, she heard a sound from the room in the back corner.
She walked toward it, as quietly as she could (even though she had just been swooping around the room like a crazy ghost). She entered the room and gasped
"Amma" she said, seeing the form of an old nun from behind
"I am not Amma, my child" she said turning around
Seeing her face it was clear she was not Amma, but they looked very similar still.
"Oh..." said Chris, clearly disappointed
"Her death hit us all hard, I am sorry that you had to find her like that" said the old nun
"Who are you?" asked Chris
"My name is Rhesus, I am one of the Chayal assigned to guard this place and the library that lies beneath. I was also sister to Amma. For centuries we were in here together. I mourn her loss" she sat down at the table and gestured for Chris to sit down too.
"I'm sorry for your loss" Chris said
"Thank you my child, as I am for yours." she replied, then "before her demise, she told me about your predicament. You are Chayal, in love with one of the originals" ther was no judgment in her voice
"My... my girlfriend is some kind of sea monster, yeah" she said
"Ah, Glitha. I thought they had gone extinct"
"The problem is, every time she tries to show me her monster form, I turn and attack her. It's like I can't control myself. But today while I was training, I seemed to be able to control my actions without effort. I just... I don't understand" Chris said, getting frustrated.
