Twenty-Four

Bucky felt the ground shift, a tremor running beneath them, and then a cloud of dust, burst from the opening. He stumbled back, swivelling his head around... 'Does anyone see Loki? Find him, now!..'.. He shouted, hoping that they made it out. The team all began scrambling around until they heard a shout.

'On the jet!..'... He had never run so fast in his life, beating everyone else there. He stumbled onto the back of the jet, seeing Loki collapse in a seat as Helen, Bruce and Maria all worked together on helping Liv.

'Is she..'... He didn't want to know, but he had to.

'Shes alive, but we need to get her to a hospital now. We don't know the extent of the damages she has..'... The rest of the team burst into the jet, all taking a seat and strapping in.

Tony headed for the controls... 'Take us to Southern Hospital. Get a team up and running by the time we hit the roof..'... He calls out to Friday, and the jet closes up, before taking off. Bucky comes to her left side, taking one of her hands in his, trying not to break.

'Aiden John Davies, born 7/5/89. Her ex..'.. Tony stood back up as auto was engaged.

'Aiden?..'.. Nat frowned at him... 'The one that was burned from her powers? What was he doing with Hydra?..'

'At the moment, we don't know. Only that she was meant to be bait for Barnes. Someone knew that they were close, but managed to orchestrate it all. Whoever it was, knew that they would be paired together on this mission..'... Tony turns to Bucky... 'Did either of you two talk to anyone, outside of the team, about the mission?..'

Bucky frowned, wondering who the hell it could be. The only one he had spoken to was Sharon, but it couldn't have been her, she wasn't bad. Liv adored the woman. He sighed, looking down at Liv... 'I spoke with Sharon Carter, as did Liv. We both assured her that nothing would happen between us on the mission, only minor things for show..'

'Why would you be talking to Carter?..'.. Steve asked, folding his arms and frowning.

'Because I've been seeing her for a while, she's one of Livs closest friends outside of the avengers, she set us up..'.. Bucky was getting pissed off, feeling the looks of everyone. The jet came into land, on top of the hospital.

The whole team cleared the way, as doctors and nurses rushed out, with a gurney to take Liv inside, Bruce and Helen followed. Bucky turned his head, hearing Sharon's name whispered, seeing Nat and Clint talking quietly... 'Anything you want to share with the group?..'... He gestured to them.

They both looked at each other and Nat sighed... 'She was engaged to Rumlow, before SHIELD fell. They thought that they had kept their relationship a secret, but I found out. Sharon went up against Rumlow that day, and stood with SHIELD, no one thought to question it..'

'What if she is Hydra? What if she's been playing the whole time?..'.. Clint says, looking around at everyone.

Bucky didn't say a word, as he strode out of the jet, and to the door, heading inside after Bruce and Helen. He would find out the truth, and if Sharon had been playing them all along, he'd kill her himself for what she had done to Liv.

The team all waited around, wanting to hear from Helen, as she was their primary doctor. She was running point on all the tests that were being done on Liv. It had been three hours, and they were all getting anxious.

'Hey..'... Every head turned, and they rushed over to Helen as she came to talk to them. She held her hands up, halting their questions before they even started... 'Shes healing but with her being crushed beneath the weight of that large piece Loki told us about, her brain was starved of oxygen for a while. Though the scans show the bruising is healing, there is no guarantee that even if she wakes up, that she will remember..'

'So, shes in a coma then?..'.. Maria threw her hands up, walking off, Sam going after her.

'At this moment in time, yes she's in a coma, but her powers are healing her. I'm hopeful she will wake, and though her brain looks healthy, we won't know the extent of damage done until shes awake..'.. Helen sighed, seeing the same look on everyone's faces... 'You can go in and see her, but only two at a time. Talk to her, read, sing, anything. It can help her..'

Bucky stepped forward, turning to Tony... 'Lets go. The rest of you can pair up. We'll be back out soon..'... Both men followed Helen down the corridor, and she showed them into the private room, Tony had paid for Liv to have.

Tony's breath caught in this throat, seeing her so fragile on the bed. He went around to her other side, taking a hold of her hand as he sat down, Bucky doing the same on her other side... 'Hey Liv. I uh, I've done some stupid shit I need you to shout at me for. Look, I'm sorry I never knew what happened to you, before the battle, and everything since then..'.. Tony sniffled, looking down... 'You're the sister I never had, you know? Without you, I wouldn't have gotten my shit together, I wouldn't have Pepper, or this family of ours..'

Bucky remained quiet, as Tony spoke, knowing that Tony had found out about Livs past. He wouldn't ever say it, even if he was asked about it.

'Please Liv, we need you. You're the one that holds us together..'.. Tony kissed her hand, not able to say anything more.

'Can you give me a minute?..'.. Bucky asks him, and Tony nods, standing up and placing a kiss to her head, before leaving the room... 'Fuck Liv, you know I can't survive without you. You can't leave me, please don't leave me..'.. He felt tears fall, and he needed her to hear him... 'You promised me, you would never give up. You're safe now, I got you..'.. He leaned in, kissing her head... 'Come back to us Loli..'.. He whispered, before getting up and leaving the room, stealing one last look back at her.

Bucky waited until the others had gone into see her. If only she knew just how much she was loved and needed by them all, Tony was right, she was the one that held them together. He watched as Wanda and Nat came out, both holding onto each other, silent tears running down their faces.

Loki saw Nat nod at him, and he sighed. Both him and Thor were next in to see her, and he was afraid. Afraid that he would lose her. He still couldn't understand why he cared so much, he barely even knew her.

Both entered her room, and he sucked in a sharp breath seeing her in the bed. She looked so peaceful, yet so broken. He wished she could wake up, if only to throw some remark at him, he would even take her calling him 'loser' if it meant she was alright.

'Olivia..'.. He heard his brother sigh, as he sat next to her bed, taking her hand in his... 'I need your help with Jane. I fear I have made an error. Please, I need you to wake up, we all do. I do not think this family of ours could carry on without you..'.. He brought her hand to his cheek, giving her a tearful smile... 'I only wish we could have gotten to you sooner, I'm sorry..'

Loki watched as Thor stood suddenly, and left the room. He didn't know what to do, but he drifted closer, perching on the edge of her bed. She looked as though she was sleeping, and a thought crossed his mind. He looked back at the door, and then shifted to sit in the chair, placing his hand over her forehead.

If he could see him in her dreams, perhaps he could get a message to her, tonhelp her wake up. Taking a breath, he closed his eyes and felling into her dream.
