_____
ena's a very stubborn girl, she would always force herself to draw until she thinks that her drawing is good enough, and when she thinks that it's not good enough or she's not happy with the result of her drawing, she seek of validation with other method other than doing art, by taking a pic of herself and posted it online.
but ever since you're there for her, she stopped doing it. all she needs now is your validation only, not by some strangers online complimenting her and giving her the attention she wanted.
yet sometimes, you compliment her too much from what she expected, too much that she thinks it's stopping her from improving to be better than how she is right now.
maybe it's your choice of word that made her stuck, she feels like staying in the same boat and not moving to a bigger one is enough for her. but that feeling was quickly set aside. other than your validation she also wants her father approval.
his approval that she's just not a talentless daughter like he said. she wants him to spout out the words, not just blatant criticism that results her on doubting her own self and talent.
and she think, she think with you giving her all the praise she never could get is getting in the way of her becoming the better artist she wants to, and is stopping her from getting the approval she want from her dad.
ena thinks that your compliment is holding her back to breaking through her potential.
and so here she is, on her bed with her phone where the time shows it's twelve in midnight. even though it's bad for her health, she's willing the sacrifice her sleep schedule just to tell you how her day went, and the same to you. you're willing to listen to all her rants rather than sleeping since you're also attending classes at the same time as her.
wanna call?
the message you sent sparked an idea in her head. she wanted to tell you she needs a break from the relationship, because she thinks you're 'limiting' her on pushing her potential and she feels like this is her chance to say it.
sure, she replied and just a few seconds after she sent the message you immediately call her. she press on the green button and put her phone on her right ear.
hey
she heard shuffling after you greet her from the phone, assuming that you're positioning yourself on talking to her.
"hi... so why do you want to call all of the sudden?" of course, starting the conversation with something friendly at first before getting on the main part.
mmm... miss you. and can't i just call my girlfriend when i miss her?
she unconsciously smile to herself, her hand went to grab the yellow cat pillow as she lay with her face down on the bed, resting her head on the pillow.
and i feel like you wanted to talk. what is it?
'that was quite fast.'
"well... it's something serious, it might even effect our relationship." she start with you getting silent on the other side of the phone, she take that silence as a green light for her to continue.
"i want a break."
you keep quiet, fidgeting with the hem of your pajamas nervously, you didn't know that you've been ignoring her calls because your mind is trying to recall back the moment where you're being mean to her. yet you found none.
"[name] are you there? answer me please. did i got you surprised when i asked that?"
may i ask why?
she sigh, "well... [name] you've been a great boyfriend to me, paying close attention and spoil me, always reminding me to always take a break when i feel like i need it. before you get it wrong, you didn't do anything that makes me say that. i just think that... you always compliments my art, i appreciate that so much. but, those praises are somehow... holding me back?"
you stay silent for a short while before responding with a gruff,
that doesn't make any sense
"i know it doesn't but–"
im just being supportive over what you like. how come me praising your art is holding you back?
"listen. i know you're not happy with my decision, but everytime i look at my art and thought it's not good enough, you would always say it's good to cheer me up, which is stopping me from improving." ena retort, ending her argument with a heavy sigh after not hearing a single word from you.
is that so.
she hums as an answer. "i need criticism to improve too."
i respect your decision. i won't call you but texting is fine right?
"mhm. let's just walk to school and go home by ourselves. also, can we delay our date this saturday?"
again, you were silent at first before you agree with her.
whatever suits you. im heading to sleep now. good night.
"good-"
beep
she put her phone away and sigh when you hung up on her right before she can say good night back to you. now she's doubting her choice, but she set those doubts away and focus on improving her skills now.
'not even an i love you... he must be really upset.' she look over to her monitor, then to the time where it shows it's almost one.
"alright, let's get on work now."
before she get on drawing, her phone lit up with a chat notification popping out, urging her to take the phone and read it but she decide to ignore it and focus on her work.
sorry for hanging up when you're talking. i love you
