Present time...
Jennifer's pov
Everyday after Mariela was born was the best days of my life. Getting the chance to raise my daughter with my wonderful and committed wife was like god rewarding me.
I was so happy the day leah asked me to marry her. I've never been so happy in my life. The day we shared our vows together.
The day I met her mother. The day we met, if I knew my life would turn out this great I would've met her sooner but I know that wasn't possible but I thank god everyday for her.
Until now. Now I beg god to change her mind. To make her love me again if she stopped. To tell her that I'm the one for her, but I know he can't.
I miss her so much. I would do anything to go back, I know we were bad but I didn't know she was thinking of leaving me.
I hope she doesn't want to fully leave me. I would truly break without her. I need her, she likes my fix. I need her as much as I need air.
I follow her down the stairs and see her walk out our home. Our first home as a family. Me, Leah and Mariela.
She gets in her car and drives off. That's when my tears started to fall.
The whole time I was hoping she'd turn around and apologize. Saying she was wrong and that she loves me but it never happened.
I felt my phone buzz in my pocket. I didn't want to look at it but I worried if it was Mariela that was at a sleepover at Leah's moms house, Vicky.
But it wasn't her. It was Leah. My heart skips a beat.
I open the message from her but only get disappointed from the outcome.
"Hey, we can talk to Mariela when I pick her up from my moms house. I'll drive over to the house and we'll tell her what's going on. She'll decide who she wants to be with first."
I bite my lip softly. I never thought I would get a text message like this from her.
It's breaking me so much. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.
"Okay, thanks for the heads up"
I sent. Something simple. I don't want to annoy her.
"No problem"
I don't know what to do with myself anymore. I've been with her for almost a decade and half. I don't know anything outside of Leah.
I don't know how she's handling this. Maybe she's been disconnected for a while and I haven't noticed. Does that make me a bad wife?

Leah came over with Mariela a little while ago. Now we're sitting on the coffee table in from of Mariela that was sitting on the couch. She was eating her orange while waiting for us to speak.
"So, what up?" She asks.
I gulp and look at Leah. She sighs and rubs her hands together.
"Me and mom are taking a break. I don't know how long for, this doesn't mean we're getting a divorce. I'm staying at grandmas condo and you'll go with the one of us every other week." She said trying to answer all her questions in one. But forgot the most important one.
"Why?"
Leah glances at me but I let her answer this.
"Well, because there has been a lot of things going on and we think it's best for us to take a break. And re-examine things." Leah said.
Mariela looks at me. Scared. The same look I had.
"Mom you promised" she said.
Tears well up in my eyes immediately. "I know, I'm sorry. But this is temporary. We'll be back together before you know it, I promise." I whisper kneeling down to her and caress her face.
"You're just making another promise for you to break" she said and goes upstairs.
I reach my hand out to grab her but I stop myself. She needs space. I don't know how my wife and daughter needs space at a time like this. When it's me, all I want is them. That's what's different between us.
Tears roll down my face. I cover myself from Leah, not trying to show how vulnerable I am.
I cry into my hands. Pain is all I feel.
Then I felt Leah's hand on my back but I pull away even though that's what I want.
It will make things harder on me. Knowing she won't stay here with me.
"Please don't touch me if you're just gonna leave." I cry out. Silence surrounds us, except for my sobbing.
"I'm sorry Jen, I really am. I guess she'll stay with you first." She said getting up.
Before she could leave, Mariela comes running down the stairs with a packed bag.
"Can I stay with mama first?" She asks.
I take my hands from my face and see her with her bag on her back.
I get up and walk around the couch. "Wait, you don't want to stay with me-" I said before I got interrupted.
"Just let her choose." Leah said. I look back at her and she presses her lips. I look back at Mariela longing to go with Leah.
The most important people in my life want to leave me. I wiped my face.
"Whatever you want baby I'll be okay with." I said quietly, not wanting my voice to crack.
She looks between the both of us and walks to Leah.
I feel my heart shatter physically.
"Ill drop her off next Sunday." Leah said and takes Mariela with her out our home.
Once the home we used to stay in together happily. Once the home that we shared.
I just lost my daughter and wife the same day.
Well technically not yet. I still have time to win them over, but it seems impossible right now.
I walk to the window next to the door and see Leah and Mariela exchanging smiles.
It breaks my heart to see them that happy without me.
