Chapter 8.
Jelena Ronelle Toscano-Anderson

"Ain't that the girl Deuce used to date?" London asked as she placed a new ice pack on her knee that she had hurt in practice.

Immediately, I looked up from my phone and looked across the street seeing Nadia, the girl Deuce used to date all throughout high school sitting on the porch of her house talking to who I'm guessing were her cousins? or maybe her younger brothers.

"Yeah, that's her." I said, rolling my eyes and turning my attention back to my phone.

Adrian chuckled and shook his head. "Someone's jealous."

"Jealous of what?" I scoffed as I texted Kiyan back.

"Uh, how about the fact that she had Deuce and you didn't ?" Harmonie pointed out.

I scoffed and smirked. "Trust me, I've had Deuce."

"You better had not had Deuce." Adrian scolded, narrowing his eyes at me. "Or I'll kick both of y'all asses."

"You ain't kicking shit." I giggled, putting my feet in my brothers lap.

Harmonie tilted her head to the side. "I don't know who that guy is over there, but he's kinda cute."

"I hope we're not looking at the same guy, because I agree." London said with a smirk.

Just as I was about to ask which guys my cousins were talking about, Deuce's car pulled up, and instead of waiting a few moments before he and Malachi got out of the car like they usually did, they both immediately got out. Malachi was struggling to keep up with Deuce as Deuce marched up the driveway and to the front door.

I could tell that something was wrong with Deuce, and usually when Deuce was upset, he tended to go to one of the two people: Auntie Rini or Auntie Mori (Amour), usually I could tell who he would go to, but for some reason, I couldn't read his mood.

I wonder what's wrong...

"Deuce, you just gonna act like you ain't see us?" London asked, raising an eyebrow.

Deuce shook his head. "Lolo, I'm really not in the mood right now..."

"You good, man?" Adrian asked. Deuce nodded and gave Adrian a weak smile. "I'll be fine..."

"Deuce..." I said, but Malachi shook his head at me.

"Jelena, not now, okay?" Malachi said, following Deuce inside.

Getting up, I set my books to the side and walked inside after Malachi and Deuce. Call me hardheaded, but I wanted to know what was going on. I cared about Deuce, and trust me, I'd do the same if it came down to anyone else.

Before Deuce could walk into the next room, I grabbed his arm, pulled him back. He turned around and let out a breath through his nose, giving me an exhausted expression.

"What, Jelena?" He mumbled.

"What's goin' on with you, Deuce?" I asked, crossing my arms.

"Nothing." He lied.

Scoffing, I laughed and shook my head. "You know I can tell when you're lying, right? Look Deuce, whatever's going on, you can tell—."
