Chapter 38

Elliot's POV: 

I was invited to go over to Maisy's study group thing today. 

I don't know how that'll work. I'm not even in their grade. 

As I walk up to the house my anxiety grows. 

She seems to have found some pretty scary people who protect her. 

I hope they like me. 

"Hello you must be Beans friend. Come on in." 

"Yes sir." 

"Please, call me Nick."

"Oh uh ok." 

"Bean your friend is here." Nick said.

She bounced over. 

"Hi. What subjects do you need help with?" 

"Um Geometry?" 

"Nice I know how to do that. Come on I'll introduce you to everyone." 

"These are my brothers Xander, Ace, Arlo, and  Zero And my best friends Garren, Emmett, Caleb, Sage, and Ezra." She said and pointed to each person. 

Sage got up and hugged her while whispering something to her. 

Then her face got all red. 

Is he her boyfriend?

"Um guys this is Elliot, he's a friend from when I was little." 

"Nice to meet you." 

"Oh and that's Nick he's gonna be my Dad." 

"Woah cool." 

"Well come sit down, we don't bite." 

"I don't know Bean does." Emmett said. 

"I was supposed to do that though." 

"You did a very good job." 

"You were fucking vicious, you took a chunk outta his hand. It was great!" 

Bean was smiling. 

I was a little nervous. 

But I'm sure she had good reason...to..take a chunk..out of someone's hand... 

"Context guys, I think you're scaring the newbie." Sage said. 

"So pretty much Sage's brother is a creep." 

"And that's putting it nicely." 

"Then he was uhh..." 

"He was a creep I think we can leave it at that." Nick interjected. 

"Should we start with Math?" Maisy asked. 

Everyone agreed. 

There was. big whiteboard by the kitchen table. 

"Ok starting with algebra homework." 

Everyone got out there homework and Maisy stood at the whiteboard explaining things and answering all questions. 

She was smart when we were younger, but this is like savant level. 

We went on every topic and she gave directions. 

"Hey who wants to stay for dinner?" Nick came in and asked. 

Everyone raised their hands, but kept working. 

I didn't know what to do. 

"Do you wanna stay Elliot? We're having mac and cheese. My favorite. Nick makes it from scratch." 

"Sure I'd love to. I'll just text my Mom." 

Me- Hey Mom I got invited to stay for dinner. is that ok? 

Mom-Of course sweets, can I come in to say hi when I pick you up? 

"Um Maisy my Mom was wondering if she could say hi later when she comes to pick me up, would that be ok?" 

"I'd love to see Ms. McKane again. Is that Ok Nick?" 

"Of course sweets." 

"You know she's gonna tell you to call her Anna. Right?" 

"Like you Mr. M." 

"Come on Sage you've known me for years. Just call me Nick." 

"No can do Mr. M." 

We finished up our homework right around when dinner was ready. 

Maisy also somehow helped with dinner. 

I don't know how she does it all. 

At dinner everyone was bantering. 

Maisy always wanted a bigger family. 

"So Elliot did you just move here?" Nick asked. 

"Yeah a few months ago."  

"Are the rumors true?" Xander asked. 

"What rumors?" 

"That you sent a kid to the hospital and that's why you moved." 

"Xander enough." Nick warned

"Come on we've all beat the crap out of people." 

"Yeah, but he was not a good person." 

"What'd he do?" 

I looked at down and took a deep breath.

"Guys I mean it. That's enough. Let's not make our guest uncomfortable." 

There was a knock on the door. 

My Mom was here. 

"probably my Mom." 

"I'll get it." Nick got up and answered the door. 

"Hi I'm Nick, Maisy's guardian." 

"Hi Ms. Mckane." Maisy peeked out from behind Nick, and startled my Mom. 

"Oh! Maisy you always do that! I'm glad to see you haven't lost that. Hello I'm Anna, and I'm Anna to you too Maisy." 

Maisy giggled. 

"Well come here I'm in need of a hug." 

Maisy immediately hugged her. 

I have to say I am a little bit jealous. 

Maisy didn't hug me. 

"Come here I want you to meet my brothers and my friends. They're friends, but we're all a family." 

Everyone an  "aww" when she said that. 

"We are a family huh? I like it." Sage said.
