the night before (ch.1)

salish's pov 

I am so excited for this summer, because I am going to nidal's family's lake house! it's in texas and it's going to be me and nidal, his older sister jiji, his older brothers neshan and juju, and his mom.

today I decided to finally start packing for the trip! I basically need to bring my whole closet because i'm staying there for the whole summer up until a week before school starts. i'm really excited! I opened my dresser drawer and I grabbed a few pairs of plaid pajama pants, which were my favorite. then, I went to my closet and grabbed four tank tops which I planned to wear to bed. I neatly folded them and put them in my suitcase. 

I was getting a little bit bored so I decided to go downstairs to get a snack. I said hi to my mom, who was in the kitchen, and then I opened the fridge to grab some strawberries. I reached for a bowl from the cabinet and began rinsing off the strawberries while humming. once I put them all in the bowl I went back to my room to continue packing. 

I opened my pants drawer and I grabbed out my favorite jeans, the ones I got with payton for a video on my dad's channel. then I grabbed two pairs of black leggings in case it was a rainy day. next, I pulled open my shorts drawer and took out my favorite pair of jean shorts, which were a lightish blue color. I reached for my black jean shorts as well, and a pair of darker blue jean shorts that I had. lastly, I packed neatly into my suitcase about twelve pairs of random shorts I just found laying around. 

as for shirts, I packed three hoodies, two crewnecks, ten t shirts, and five crop tops. after neatly folding them into my suitcase I realized that I was going to need another suitcase! luckily, I had a duffel bag that I usually use for gymnastics that I could use. just for fun, I packed two day dresses that I could wear if I felt like it, or if there was a fancy occasion. for swimsuits, I packed two one-piece swimsuits, and five two-piece bathing suits, almost all of which I got from target. now I just needed to pack my shoes and toiletries! I packed three pairs of flip flops, one pair of fancy sandals, my nike blazers, and one pair of tennis shoes I could run in. I grabbed my makeup bag from my bathroom counter and put all my makeup in it. then, in a separate bag from the kitchen I packed a full can of bug spray and a full can of sunscreen. lastly, I grabbed my toiletry bag and I added in my toothbrush and toothpaste, floss, chap stick, lotion, and any other things I thought I might need. I had just finished packing all my things when I heard my parents called me down for dinner.

"coming!", I yelled.

"salish, can you help set the table", I asked.

"sure!", salish said.

I grabbed three spoons, three forks, and three knives and neatly placed them on the table. ever since hudson went off to college in new york i've sure been missing him. its hard to believe he's been in college for three years already! this year he's turning twenty two. of course I still get to see him during the holidays but it's just different not having him around. I sat down for dinner with my parents and we started eating.

"so salish did you start packing yet?", I asked.

"yup! I just finished packing everything up for tomorrow!", she said.

"awesome!", I said.
