Chapter 10 Confessions Pt. 2

I wake up and look at my scarred arms in the mirror. The door creaks open and I quickly pull down my sleeves.

"Hey. Umm, what are you doing here?" I ask Cassin as he walks in.

"How did you get those scars?" Cassian looks at me with a concerned look.

"My father." I mumble.

"What?" He asks.

"Some from my father, some from the people he wanted me to.. Umm. ya know." I say holding onto my arm.

"They look kinda badass though." Cassian says, walking towards me.

"Oh really?" I laugh, confused.

"Yeah, like you fought a mountain lion or something." He smiles.

"A mountain lion?" I giggle. Cassian's cheeks start to turn red.

"You good?" I ask.

"Umm, Athena. There is something I have to tell you." Cassian says looking scared.

"What's up?" I ask, getting concerned.

"I like you, like I have a crush on you. I don't want this to ruin our friendship and I know you're my guard and it's not professional bu–"

I lift up on my toes and press my lips to his, half expecting him to pull away but he doesn't. He presses his lips back to mine in a passionate kiss, his hands pressed against my waist, my arms wrapped around his neck. For a second the whole world stopped moving, like the only thing in the world was us. We pulled away looking into each other's eyes, Cassian's whole face was red and I'm sure mine was too.

"I finally got Athena Carter to blush." Cassian says breathlessly as I laugh.

"So what do we do now?" He asked.

"Well we kinda have to tell your parents because I technically can't be your guard anymore." I say

"Or we could keep it a secret and tell them later?" Cassian suggests.

"Or, we could tell your parents now so I don't get in more trouble." I smile.

"Yeah, you're right. Wanna just go tell them now?" He asks.

"Sure. Let me get changed first." I say

"Oh um, yeah of-of course, probably a good idea, I'll-I'll go outside" I laugh at how flustered Cassian got.

I get changed and we head down to tell Cassian's parents. His parents were surprisingly okay with it but we still weren't allowed to work together so I switched with the Queen and Lillie's guard.

I get back to my room and sit down on my bed getting ready to read a new book that Cassian got me, but before I could open the book Aster comes rushing in.

'Everything okay?' I ask.

'Better than okay!' Aster smiles.

'Lillie asked me out!' Aster jumps on my bed.

'Really?!' I asked in shock.

'Yeah!' She signs excitedly.

'That's awesome! I'm so happy for you!' I hug Aster.

A year has passed and everyone knew about me and Cassian, and I mean everyone, who knew the maids and guards would gossip so much. I go down to the dining room and sit next to Cassian.

"Good Morning love." Cassian says kissing my forehead.

'Eww." Aster gags.

"Oh shut up! I've seen you and Lillie full on making out in the hall!" I jokingly glare at Aster. She and Lillie turn bright red as the whole table laughs at my comment.

"Wow, you woke up and chose violence today, Athena." Nora laughed.

"My parents have to talk to you about something after breakfast." Cassian whispers to me.

After breakfast I walk to the throne room to see Nora standing in front of the King and Queen.

"Athena! There you are." Queen Charlene smiles at me.

"Is everything okay?" I ask.

"How would you feel about becoming the new head guard?" She asks me.

"Wait? Really?!" I ask, excitement rising up in me.

"You have really proven yourself to us and the old head guard is retiring. We would like you to fill the spot and Nora would take your old position." She says.

"I would love to!" I smile.

"Then it's settled. Nora will become the Queen and Princess' new guard and you Athena will become the new head guard." King Malik smiled at me and Nora.

Nora and I bow before we leave, closing the giant doors behind us.

"Oh. My. God!" Nora squeals.

"I know!" I smile as we jump up and down.

"Well, let's go inform the other guards." Nora smiles.

We finally make it to the guards quarters where we call for a meeting.

"Nora and I have some news for everyone. Starting today Nora will be the Queen and Princess' guard and I will be the new head guard." I hear grunts and sighs as I speak.

"You, of all people, they chose you? It's only because you are with Prince Cassian!" An orange ranked guard complains.

"Your King has made me head of the royal guard so you are going to respect me no matter what you might think of me. Do you understand?" I say, aggravated at what the guard was insinuating. After the meeting I head to Cassian's room to complain. The next day the guards were acting nicer to me and actually listened to me. I roll my eyes knowing Cassian said something.
