It's exactly 6:10 and Cato isn't here yet. What did I expect, Cato was never gonna be on time. Just as I start to grab my things and leave, Cato barges through the door.
"Clover! How you doing partner?" He says in a stupid voice, trying to annoy me. It works way to well.
"You were late Hadley. Explain yourself." I say sighing before putting my bag back down.
"Trouble with my girl, didn't want to upset her. You know girls." He says, raking a hand through his messy blonde hair. I think he forgets I am a girl."Which one Hadley? You have too many to keep track of." I jeer at him, but there is truth in the words. I have no idea which girl he's talking about.
He goes bright red and scowls at me saying," I am not just a player Clover, you do understand that right?" He says it bitterly, like he doesn't want to be the person that he has made himself. Yeah right, I know Cato well enough to know he loves being a cocky brat.
"Right Hadley, and pigs can fly." I say back to him before grabbing a knife.
"We'll do knife throwing first, so I can get this teacher stuff out the way and I can learn how to handle a sword finally."I turn to him and swiftly throw the knife so it just scrapes his ear. He flinches, but doesn't yelp. The academy trains you not to react to pain, and they train well.
"What was that for Clover?" He yells at me, his temper rising.
"Checking your reactions Hadley, you won't get anywhere if you can't dodge a knife" I say, smiling. I enjoy it when I piss him off."Are you actually going to teach me Clover or are you going to keep staring?" He asks smirking. I was not staring at him. Why would I stare at his ugly face?
"Staring? You must be delusional." I say, before grabbing a knife and telljng him to reach for one.
"Throw it at that target over there Hadley." I say, pointing over to the wall. Let's see how terrible he is.Cato gets into what might be the worst stance I have ever seen and attemps at throwing it. There is a huge clash on the floor and I wince at the sound. It didn't even reach the target. He is much worse than I anticipated.
He huffs in annoyance and starts cursing.
"That was shit Hadley, you know right? I say, spinning a knife in my hands.
"Shut up Clover, I already know I can't throw knives, you don't need to tell me." He says bitterly before picking another knife up."Don't throw that Hadley, it won't go anywhere when your standing like that." I say and walk over to him.
"Move your leg over here." I say, pointing at the floor.
"Clover I won't know what the hell to do unless you move me" Cato says, not moving an inch. Is he really that incompetent?I sigh and start shoving him into the correct position. I feel his gaze on me and turn to face him. I do not want that big lump staring into my soul like a creep.
"There Hadley, I am sure you can throw now, or am I going to have to show you how again?" I say sarcastically and stand to watch.
"Clovesy, don't get mad at me. I just need you to give about 50 demonstrations before I can actually hit the target." He says chuckling. I swear to god these names are getting annoying.I tell him to get on with hit and he concentrates on the target again. He is still shit at releasing the knife, but it moves more than 10 metres. Still no where near the target though. I suppress a laugh when he trips over his own feet walking over back to me. There's no way he'll survive the gamew if he is this clumsy.
"I think I have accepted I am pretty terrible at knife-throwing Clover, so lets just move on to swords. It's not like I will need to throw knives to win the games." He says cockily and I roll my eyes at his stupid arrogance. He is definitely the sort of career to drag out deaths to be as long as possible. I would never do that, all you need is a quick slice to the neck.
"Fine Hadley, Let's move on." I say bittetly. I was kind of enjoying seeing him fail.
He leads us over to the sword section, sauntering, and picks up a monstorous blade. A sort of blade that could kill you with one clean slice. I choose a smaller sword with a blunt edge. I would sharpen it, but I don't want to spend more time than needed with Golden Boy.
Beckoning me over, he swings his sword at a dummy standing there. In a few seconds, the dummy has been beheaded and it's arms have been cut off.
"Okay Clover, too start with I just want you too jab into the dummys heart." Cato says and steps out the way. I push the tip of the blade into the heart without having to think. We are taught where all the serious internal organs are from the minute we step foot in the academy.
"Good Clover, but you need to relax your arms, there too tense. You look like your touching food with a knife." He says and I flex my arms to loosen them. I can't really help my arms, this sword is really too heavy for me.
I stab the dummy again, this time knocking it back a bit and turn to Cato, smiling. He smirks and arrogantly says,"I am an amazing teaching aren't I Clover? Better than you at least"
"Maybe I am just a better student Hadley. Was your small brain capable to think of that?" I snap. There's no way he's better than me.We continue to bicker and train in swords for another half hour, before we start packing our bags and leaving.
"You got to admit you had fun Clover" Cato says while swinging his bag over his muscular shoulders. Yes, I did have a little fun. But will I admit that? Of course not.
"No way Hadley. Most boring time of my life." I say and head to the doors."We should do this again Clover, every other day after training?" He asks. I would actually like to do more sword work. I will need it for the games. It's not like I'm going in with Hadley, I'n sure it won't matter if I spend more time with him.
"Fine Hadley." I say," Under one condition. Call me by my real name." He just puts his trademark smirk on his face and shakes his head. Not having the energy to argue, I leave the room, slamming the door behind me.
