Her 6th year at Hogwarts passed quickly. Her lessons were intense, and she missed Fred desperately, she lived for their letters they exchanged. Snape accused her of being too dreamy "Focus on the lesson please miss (Y/L/N), or I will put you in detention. Surely you can stop dreaming of Fred Weasley long enough to pay attention." She flushed angrily.
She remembered Fred's response in his letter "Foul git, I'm going to send him a dung bomb." True to his word a week later Snape was on the warpath trying to find out who had sent him one.
(Y/N) became part of the slug club because of her talent in lessons like Hermione, and Slughorn was delighted when she asked if Fred could be her date to the party. He wanted to meet the successful twins, and it was great to have Fred back at Hogwarts for an evening. After the party they fucked in the room of requirement just like old times.
Her relationship seemed to be the only one on course as there was a massive fallout between Ron and Hermione as he was now dating Lavender, (Y/N) was angry at Ron for hurting Hermione's feelings, and he was still a bit off with her anyway due to him viewing Fred as favouring her over his own brother.
She spoke to Fred about this, and he threatened to send Ron a howler for being a twat, but she made him promise her not too. In the end Ron came round to her, but there was no way back for him and Hermione, so her and Harry were stuck in the middle of it trying to keep the peace. But as Ron had Harry more, she spent more time with Hermione for support and held her as she sobbed. She lived for the holidays and weekends when she could spend time with Fred, they were the happiest moments of her life. It put her mind off the looming danger of Voldemort, and whatever Malfoy was up to.
...
As the year passed there were ups and downs. She was so happy that Ginny and Harry were finally together. Although Hermione and Ron still wouldn't admit their feelings, despite that he had now got rid of Lavender. (Y/N) could just strangle them at times.
Then the dreaded day came where everything changed. The whole school was in a state of shock due to the murder of Dumbledore. (Y/N) had liked, and heavily respected him and was really saddened by his death. The funeral was beautiful, and Fred was there with one arm round her and the other holding her hand and she leaned into him.
Not long after this Harry had announced that he was going to look for horcruxes rather than return to Hogwarts, Ron and Hermione were going and (Y/N) needed to decide. She felt she would probably need to go with them, this was too important but that would mean she would have to leave Fred and she didn't know if or when she would ever see him again which made her eyes fill with tears.
How would he take it? Bill and Fleur were getting married over the summer so it would have to be then as after that they were leaving. (Y/N) knew that Harry had ended things with Ginny due to it being too dangerous for them to be together as he was the chosen one, but she wasn't going to end things with Fred, but would he still want her?
She had decided, she had thought long and hard about this and she knew she couldn't let Harry and the others go without her they needed her, and this was too important. It was about freeing the world and saving lives which was much more important than her selfishness of wanting to stay with Fred. Harry had to leave Ginny behind so she could do this too.
But pain still filled her she would miss him, and what terrified her most was the thought that she might never see him again, and couldn't keep in touch with him so they could know that each other were safe. What if she died? What if he died? She could feel terror and sadness consume her. She mentally shook herself she couldn't think like this, she had to be strong. Whatever was going to happen would happen and she would have to deal with it when it came. She just hoped Fred would understand and that he would know she wasn't abandoning him.
...
(Y/N)'s mum entered the room bringing her back to the present "(Y/N) are you ok?" she asked worried.
"I'm fine mum, just tired" (Y/N) lied. (Y/M/N) pulled her into a hug.
"I know you better than that, I know bad things are happening in the wizarding world and I just want you to be careful. I can't bear to lose you too" she said tears falling down her face.
"You won't lose me mum I promise" (Y/N) said trying to keep her voice steady.
"I feel like you're going to leave, I can't explain it, but I can feel it" (Y/M/N) confessed, (Y/N) didn't reply, there wasn't much she could say to reassure her, so they just stood holding each other in silence.
(Y/N) had arranged with Hermione over the phone what was the safest thing for her mum what with her being a muggle. Hermione had told her the plan to modify her parents' memories so they forgot she existed, and so they moved to Australia and Hermione thought it would be best for her mum to go with them, she said she could modify the memories so that they would think (Y/N)'s mum was their relative, and that they needed to move together. (Y/N) agreed but the thought of her mum forgetting her brought her so much pain.
It was the best option, It just wasn't safe for her mum to stay with the Weasleys, and safe houses were always a risk, so Hermione's plan was the best as much as it hurt. Besides when the war was over, they could find their parents and reinstate their memories. (Y/N) could always hold onto that hope, it was the best thing to protect her mum which was the most important thing.
(Y/N)s eyes filled with tears as she left her home behind, but her mum was safe now and she wouldn't be alone (Y/N) turned back to the house one more time "I will come back for you mum." Hermione squeezed her arm, and the girls hugged it had been hard for Hermione too. They were now going with the other members of the order of the phoenix to move Harry to the burrow (It had been made into a safe house) and she would see Fred again.
