It had now been over three years since Fred died, and (Y/N) was having a picnic with George. It was their weekend off. "How is the therapist and equal rights stuff going? George asked.
"It's great I'm really enjoying it. How's business?"
That's good! And booming as Fred would like to say" and they both laughed. "Me and Ron are buying out more properties" he said. Ron had decided to go and work with George on the shop, and together they had made the business even more successful, she knew George loved having Ron helping.
"That's great news" (Y/N) enthused.
George nodded "I'm buying a house for myself too, I don't think it's good for me being in that flat above the shop, it's too empty without him."
(Y/N) nodded "It will be good for you to have a fresh start" And they exchanged a meaningful look. They both knew that (Y/N) had never been able to set foot in that flat again, and it upset George too.
They sat in a companionable silence for a while watching the sunset when suddenly George shuffled closer to her, and (Y/N)'s heart quickened. She had become aware that there was something between them, but she wasn't sure it was real. She turned to him but before she could say anything he kissed her. (Y/N) pulled away "George I'm sorry I'm not sure I'm ready..."
George looked mortified "(Y/N) I'm so sorry I shouldn't have done that."
"It's ok" she said. "I do have feelings for you, but I need to make sure they are real" His flare of happiness at her first words had changed to confusion.
"What do you mean?" He asked.
"I need to make sure that it's you I love and not the ghost of Fred looking at me. I'm sorry!" She apologised as she saw the pain in his face "I don't want to hurt you, but I just want to make sure otherwise it will be worse if we start something, and it ends badly."
"You're right" said George but he still looked hurt.
"You need to make sure your feelings are real to" (Y/N) said.
"Mine are" and he said it with such ferocity that (Y/N) moved away startled. George seemed to consider something "I have loved you for years" he admitted.
"What?" (Y/N) could hardly speak.
"Ever since your 4th year when you saved some of our ton-tongue toffee from mum when we went to the quidditch world cup, remember?"
"I remember" she said breathlessly "I had no idea." But then she suddenly wondered if that was true, she suddenly remembered a conversation she'd had with Fred "George likes you a lot" he had said "I think maybe a bit too much" then he had laughed.
"What do you mean" she had asked puzzled.
"Nothing" He had said.
She returned to the present and gasped "Fred knew, didn't he?" she asked shocked.
"Yes of course he did, we were twins we knew everything about each other. Wait how did you know?"
"Because he as good as told me I just didn't realise till now."
"Oh"
"And Fred didn't mind?"
"Nah... well he minded a little bit, but we trusted each other, and he knew I would never do anything. I knew you loved each other, and I cared for you both, I would never get in the way of that. Besides, he couldn't say much as I liked you first, so we could say he stole you from me" He laughed.
"I'm sorry I didn't notice you" (Y/N) felt guilty.
George shrugged "You loved my brother, it's just the way it was, I was happy and I would still give anything to bring him back even if that meant you would be with him" (Y/N) didn't know what to say but George didn't wait for a reply "I was going to ask you to the yule ball, but then you went with Dean instead. I remember you looked sad. You had hoped to go with Fred, hadn't you?"
