It had been over a year since the battle. Since Fred died and even though she was ready for this step now it was still hard to see their old haunts. People regularly paid tribute to all the people that died in the battle, at the memorial that had been built. (Y/N) and Hermione visited it and laid down flowers in memory. After that they went to the exact spot where Fred died, and she put down a wreathe of flowers then broke down in tears, and Hermione put her arm round her. They busied themselves with their studies and sometimes (Y/N) went to Hogsmeade with Hermione at the weekends. They sometimes met Ron and Harry and sometimes Ginny, Neville, and Luna.

But other times she was alone as she was the only one not in a relationship now, and that was the moments that the loneliness consumed her still, the blackness and dark river of pain threatened to surface. She never told Hermione, as she wanted her to have time with Ron, she didn't want to guilt trip her into staying with her. Besides (Y/N) had to learn to deal with this, why did you have to die Fred? I love you so much and I will always miss you, she said silently. One part that was nice was seeing her old teachers, and some of her school mates too as they had also come back to retake their final year. The year passed surprisingly fast and before she knew it, it was over, and they had scored top NEWTS. (Y/N) decided it was time to see George.

...

She stood outside the joke shop her hand raised to open the door and she was shaking, she took a deep breath and entered. It looked the same as always, she felt her eyes well with tears as she looked at the desk where they had fucked, the isles he had given her a tour. The door that leads up to the flat, she could never go up there, and the 17+ section that she had helped create. Memory after memory flashed in her mind, long afternoons together here, the soft kisses, she was about to turn and walk back out when a voice cut into her thoughts. "(Y/N)? Is that you?" she looked round to see George staring at her shocked. "Hi George... Sorry to barge in if now is a bad time I can go- "

"No! It's great to see you" he said his eyes warm, and she looked at him then, I mean really looked at him, and oh how he looked like Fred. As she stared at him lost for words, he broke the silence "So, shall we go for a drink after closing time? I thought you wouldn't want to go up to you know" He pointed at the flat. He knew her well.

"Yes, that sounds perfect, I will go and grab a table."

"I'm buying though!" He grinned calling after her.

They were now both in the pub (Y/N) had a Butterbeer at first, but they were now both on fire whiskey, George had looked surprised "I didn't know you liked fire whiskey" He said looking impressed as she downed it.

"Well, I need something strong for this, and Fred got me into it" She quickly averted her eyes "Sorry."

"It's ok, I understand, you can talk about him to me. It's nice to be able to" George said. She had completely forgotten how Gentle and compassionate George could be, not that Fred hadn't been, he could be especially to her, but George was more so. Fred was more dominant, fiery and slightly cruel at times. She fondly remembered the heated arguments they'd had, the wild sex and Fred was so funny, the funniest! George was funny too of course and he could be a risk taker, but he had been more lead by his brother. (Y/N) mentally shook herself, stop comparing them (Y/N)!

"George I just wanted to apologise for not being around, I need to explain. At first it was partly because I found it hard being places that we had memories, but I'm better with that now. The real reason is because every time I look at you, I see him, and it just hurt so much" She finished.

George took a deep breath "I see him every time I look in the mirror, I can hardly look at myself" his voice chocked and (Y/N) took his hand and they looked at each other tears in their eyes.
