Time for the real games to begin
I start on my way into the forest, going over the routes in my head. The forest was still light and filled with sun right now but that won't last too much longer.
I held my bag close to my chest and walked in the shadows along the worn paths. The gravel and dirt crunched lightly under my feet, my socks/stockings most definitely soiled by now.
The trees provided good shade with the wind having a steady but light breeze. The cool wind was a nice contrast to the heat from running, filling my lungs with fresh air.
Only now in the peace and quiet did I realise my hunger. I hadn't eaten so it was understandable but being this far already it would be stupid to turn back. I debated to myself if I should just eat an egg or two, my stomach rumbling not helping me in the slightest way.
In the middle of my thought process, I snapped back to reality at the sound of footsteps. My stomach will have to wait until later.
My adrenaline rushes, senses amping up and emotions dimming. I hastily look around, trying to spot the whereabouts of the footsteps, any give away being helpful. I listen carefully while doing this, my hearing assisting my eyes with pin pointing the position. In the corner of my eye I see the slightest movement in the tree on my left, high above me.
"...Mountain"
...
"Y/n..."
"Status?"
"Well that's no fun is it?"
"Just tell you tall prick"
"Ok ok, geez, I'm safe. Calm your tail"
I take a breath as he comes down the tree, knowing that, 1 he wouldn't lie, and 2 it's against the rules of the game.
Mountain gracefully comes down, the skills he has learnt assisting well in the hunt. He swings down off the final branch, landing a few feet in front of me and brushing off his hands. Similar to me, he has no shoes but that is a normal to him thinking about it.
We stand in silence for a few seconds, the wind rustling our hair and sunlight peaking through the trees. He fiddles with his own bag, meaning he must have quite a few eggs himself, not good.
"So uh, how many you found?" I ask, keeping my voice low for incase someone was nearby.
"Hm, what?" He snaps his head back to face me, he himself was probably lost in his own mind.
"I asked how many eggs you have" laughing slightly at his face, his reaction being visible because of his missing mask.
"Right, I knew that, I have... 49" Mountain pats his bag and shuffles his feet below him, the feeling of the dirt and nature around him comforting his ghoul side.
"Oh, damn, 48" I lie to him hoping it will benefit me, manipulation at its finest.
"We better keep moving, it's coming on 4 and we are barely in the forest, stay together?" The taller ghoul asks me looking down to meet my E/C eyes.
