The chambers of the church were filled with sorrow and dread. There was little noise as the night dragged on slowly, minutes feeling like hours, hours feeling like days. The soft patter of rain was one of the only noises filling the church tonight, every ghoul, sibling, papa and anyone else was mourning in their own ways.

The lanterns hanging filled the hallways with light, going out one by one as the siblings did their nightly duties.

Night always falls, day always comes.

A few soft crys were also heard if you were to listen carefully through doors into one's room. Not one being was ready for their departure, the one they had raised, taking in their last breaths tonight.

The kit they loved, the kit they watched grow up, the kit y/n that was taken care of by the church had to leave.

In y/ns room, they lay in their nest, surrounded by pillows and blankets, longing for comfort. Multiple ghouls sat around their bed, the ghouls that had been like family to them, taking care of y/n the most now sat with them for the last time. Copia and sister were also among the ghouls, Copia for comfort, sister for ceremony.

The kit was family to so many of these ghouls, not by blood but by love. The time spent with y/n had been well cherished, none knowing that the young ones day would come so soon.

"Why must I go?" A small voice was heard breaking the silence in the room and sending both Sunshine and Rain into more tears. No one wanted to answer them, no one could, they hadn't known either.

"Because y/n, you are needed some place new, that is where you have to be" Sister spoke up, even though y/n was too like family to her, she struggled through, staying proper in this time.

"Where am I going" y/n shut their eyes feeling tears start to form, they were trying to be strong, be like the other ghouls, but they knew something was different about them, inside they were they were wrong.

"I'm not sure little one," this time it was Copia, "I'm sure someplace better than this"

"But I want to stay here, with everyone else, please let me stay" hearing this from the young kit sent even more Ghouls into breakdown, Sunshine clutching onto Cumulas, Rain being held by Mountain as tears streamed down their face together. Cirrus and Aether went to the side of y/ns bed to each hold the young ones hand, fighting back tears as they looked at the kits face. Light grey skin, unhealthy but soft, closed big eyes, forcing back tears but not well enough, cracked, grey lips, also  unhealthy with a few small tears going past agonisingly slow.

"I'm sorry y/n, we all are" Copia softly said as you opened your eyes to look at him, "we wish this didn't have to happen"

"But it must, there is no other option, you are needed somewhere else" Sister holding a book came to stand infront of the bed, "please say your goodbyes, I wish to meet you again, some other time, some other place, just not now I fear"

"Fucking bitch" was heard by the ghouls holding Dewdrop, stopping him from lashing out. "Stupid fucking-"

"Dew please, for y/n" Swiss whispered as rain came over and gave him a hug, calming the fire ghoul.

One by one the ghouls and ghoulettes came to y/ns bed, crying or fighting tears as they said their goodbyes. The ghoulettes became a hug pile with y/n, being cautious of their fragile body when hugging. Their laughter and tears were heard by the others as they said sweet goodbyes to their family like kit.

The next to say goodbye was Mountain and Swiss. They went up together and were controlling their emotions fairly well, though tears still swam down their face as they departed with the kit.

Dewdrop decided to say goodbye by himself, holding on tightly to y/n, as if to stop them from leaving. He didn't want to let go, saying how sorry he was this was happening and ended up being pulled back by Aether with tears soaking his face, unable to be held back anymore.

Rain followed next, being very quiet as he came to the bed. Looking up to see his face, y/n could see the tear streams that had dried up. He stood there for a moment not moving before in a second reaching down and hugging you even tighter than Dew. His emotions were so strong, effecting everyone in the room either making them tear up again or cry even more. Even though Dew was one of the ghouls crying the most, this time he went to collect Rain off your body, warming him up as he did so.

The so called parents were next, Aether going up and Cirrus again. They held onto your hands both giving a kiss to the fore head before giving one last hug each and going to join the other ghouls. Dew and Rain were both crying along with the ghoulettes who were holding onto Cirrus.

You smiled and waved at them before laying down onto your back and letting the tears stream freely down your face. You were happy for what was and worried for what will be. But for now you were cherishing the little time you had left with your family.

The last one to come to your side was Copia. He gave you a tight hug, controlling his tears as he whispered into your ear

"Don't cry because it's ending, smile because it happened, little kit."

Copia leaned down and gave you a kiss on the head, a kiss on the nose and a kiss on your hand before leaving your side and going to stand with his ghouls. As he left he whispered one more thing unable to be heard by anyone, but his tears being visible to all standing next to his ghouls.

"Farewell y/n, til we meet again, thankyou for coming, thankyou for staying, thankyou for being a family to us all"

You closed your eyes for possibly the last time, clutching tightly to the pillow you were holding onto. You heard Sister say a chant most likely in Latin before you disappeared into darkness unaware of your surroundings and fading away.

While that is what you saw, the ghouls saw your body go limp as one last breath left your lips, your chest falling peacefully into the mattress below, your body no longer moving.

"Per Aspera ad inferi"

I'm sorry that it turned so sad... I never meant for that to happen. But I had said it will be angsty. Btw for anyone who doesn't know, per Aspera ad Inferi means through hardship to hell.

I do hope you enjoyed it and are hopefully not crying because I had to have a few breaks to write that myself.
