class started again at 9:20. matthew and y/n would usually arrive at their classes at 9:19 because they would speed walk to their classes.
today, y/n wasn't speed walking and matthew took notice of it.
"y/n? what's wrong?" he asked in english as he felt more comfortable speaking in his mother tongue.
y/n looked up from her shoes as she was mentioned.
"huh? oh, nothing. I just feel that my social battery is already drained." she replied in english, a chuckle leaving her lips after. matthew raised an eyebrow at her response.
"why? did something happen earlier?" he inquired.
"uh, not much, really. just.. you know junhyeon?" she started.
"the loudest person in our school? like, the popular one?" matthew asked, now walking beside y/n instead of in front of her.
"yeah. him."
"why? did he do something to you?" matthew was starting to get worried. why was she stalling? did something bad happen this morning?
"we were paired together for a project that'll be for the whole term and he was kinda being a dick earlier because he left me to work on the project all alone because he was too busy talking to random people in our class. of course, I didn't do much work since I wanted him to have a say in the project too but you know?" y/n finally explained. matthew nodded in understanding as she spoke and let it process in his head.
"ohh, maybe it's too much emotional baggage? I remember when you told me that you didn't like him much because he was loud, and something along the lines of him being... what was the word...?" matthew pondered.
"lowkey rude and a jerk?" y/n completed.
"yeah! maybe you're just feeling to many things right now. I mean, it's the second month of our senior year, you literally get swarmed every morning because you walk with bahiyyih, you already have some sort of big reputation with the sophomores, you study all day, and you were just put into a project with the person you don't exactly like because of your personal experiences with them. that makes sense and I understand." matthew sympathized. y/n nodded in agreement.
"wait oh my god, I'm so sorry to let all of this on you. you're really a great friend, matthew." y/n smiled, giving him a hug. they were now outside their classrooms.
"you don't need to thank me, y/n. just remember that I'm always here for you." he replied as he hugged her back. when they parted from their hug, they waved to each other as they walked inside their classes.
"also remember that we're gonna meet the others at the parking lot entrance!" matthew added before he disappeared into his class. y/n smiled and made sure to set a reminder for herself in her phone.
the second class of the day finally started.
