Addiction is defined as not having control over doing, taking or using something to the point where it could be harmful to you. There are lots of reasons why addictions begin. In the case of drugs, alcohol and nicotine, these substances affect the way you feel, both physically and mentally. These feelings can be enjoyable and create a powerful urge to use the substances again.

Being addicted to something means that not having it causes withdrawal symptoms, or a "come down". Because this can be unpleasant, it's easier to carry on having or doing what you crave, and so the cycle continues. Often, an addiction gets out of control because you need more and more to satisfy a craving and achieve the "high".

Luna woke up in the middle of the night with an enormous headache. She rubbed her eyes while her hands were trembling. She promised her mom she was going stay clean but for some reason she craved the feeling off numbness and happiness. Sometimes she would just wake up feeling sad for no reason and she couldn't handle feeling sad anymore. she doesn't want to feel sad.

not anymore

"Your still awake." she heard a voice behind her say. she jumped and glared at the person hiding in the darkness.

"Sleep is for the weak." she joked nervously stuffing the last tiny bit of ketamine in her backpack. to block it from John b"s vision.

"facts. you know that corn doesn't digest. i just threw up and i could literately see the corn in it's whole form." john b blurred out with no hesitation. Luna let out a soft laugh.

"jeez that must have been rough on you. I'm sorry you had to go through that your ok." She asked him worried in a sarcastic way. John b nodded.

"i think. I'm fine now." He rubbed circles on his belly with his hand.

"why aren't you asleep." he asked her grabbing a water bottle from the empty fridge that consisted of moldy cheese and expired butter.

"i woke up and had a killer headache so i was looking for advil. you know how much i drank. My liver is probably already expiring." she lied trying to light up the mood hoping he wouldn't ask more questions.

"livers expire." john b genuinely asked. that boy drank more beer than Luna would in a year.

"i think so. i mean they do if you smoke and drink as much as me." She answered really thinking about it.

"facts. how are you still alive." he said tripping over air falling on the ground. She rolled her eyes and crouched down to help the whine boy on the floor.
