Niall’s POV:

It was yet another beautiful day, full of laughter and an all-around blissful atmosphere.  The boys and I continued our charity work that afternoon by visiting the school that Jade and Scarlett helped out at.  We acted as additional volunteers, being directed to different classrooms throughout the school.  Luckily for me, I ended up in the same classroom as Jade.  Good thing, Mrs. Klassen hadn’t remembered or seemed like she remembered our little mischievous exchange from last time.  After helping one of the kids with a question, I decided to sneak a peek and check on the other boys.  Walking down the hallway, passing by the other classrooms, I’d glance in and see them interacting with the kids and giving them their full attention.  They were doing an assortment of activities ranging from playing games, doing puzzles, and even helping them with their homework.

When I headed back to my classroom, finishing my rounds, a thought occurred to me.  I epiphanized that these children, this trip, this place, had left an indelible mark on my soul.  And I’m more than sure that there was an impact on the rest of the boys as well.

I stood, leaning against the doorway, observing Jade in her environment, resting some of my weight like this, my arms crossed, shoulder against the doorway.  Seeing her undivided attention directed to the child she was focused on reminded me of the very day we had met.  A small smile formed on the tips of my lips at the memory.

She was knelt down beside one of the desks, helping one of the kids with a question.  She was so focused on that one child.  There was this gentle, loving nature that just oozed out of her.  This side of her was only evoked when she worked with the kids.  It was quite endearing, really.  You could tell by one glance that she was going to be a phenomenal mother some day.  And I just hoped that I would be there when that day came, to see her kids grow and bloom into the amazing people she would mother and nurture them to be.  A warm smile slowly spread across my face at the thought.

“Niall? Hello? Earth to Niall? What’re you smiling like a goof for?” she commented as she looked up at me, surveying me suspiciously.

“Oh, nothing,” I replied, shaking my head with that same pestering smile that just wouldn’t go away.

“Then why are you just standing there in the doorway?  Why aren’t you helping out?  Like you’re supposed to be?” Jade lectured disapprovingly.

Before I could explain myself Mrs. Klassen spoke then.  “Alright, class, you guys have been behaving very well.  You all were staying very focused, whether it was on your homework or a quiet activity.  So, I reckon it’s time for a little break to enjoy the sunshine,” Mrs. Klassen announced to the class.  A chorus of hoorays and excitement erupted as they packed up their homework, leaving their activities and lining up.

Once the class had lined up, they waited patiently for Mrs. Klassen to declare it was time to go outside.  She pointedly looked at Jade and I, raising her eyebrow.  “I trust you two will behave yourselves in here while you tidy up a bit.”

We both flushed with embarrassment as we solemnly nodded our heads in agreement.

“Right then, let’s head on out, class!” she exclaimed, turning to the boys and girls lined up.
