Unfortunately, Ghana was having one of those days where when it rains, it doesn’t just rain, it downpours. It was simply absurd how such a place like this could have such bipolar weather. It was quite the hindrance causing the kids to be forced to stay inside when it did rain. All of us, including the kids, the boys, Scarlett, Mrs. Klassen and I looked longingly outside, slightly depressed by the weather.

A clap of the hands, shook us from our disheartened reverie, snapping us awake. “You know what, class? A little rain never hurt anyone. Let’s head on out and get some fresh air!” Mrs. Klassen announced excitedly.

I think all of us were just happy to get outside and to no longer be stuck in this stuffy classroom. We all lined up anxiously as we waited for the cue to go outside.

Finally, Mrs. Klassen clapped her hands, “Alright, everyone, let’s head on out!” At the sound of her instructions, we all burst through the doors.

I stepped outside, breathing the fresh, cool air in, letting the rain wash away all of my fears and inhibitions. It enabled a carefree state to flow in to me like a rushing river. I held my hands outstretched with my head turned towards the sky, letting the rain crash against my skin and soak my clothes. A smile slowly made its way across my face at the delight. Suddenly, a pair of hands grabbed my own as I let them spin me round. My eyes had snapped open at the unexpected movement as I recognized a familiar lop-sided grin belonging to Niall, my sweet blonde-haired friend. I laughed with my head tilted back as we spun around, dancing in the rain. Our shoes being engulfed in puddles as splashes of water shot up, going every which way.

Niall’s POV:

Quickly, I spun Jade around, twirling her out with one hand, catching her by surprise as she tried to clumsily recover her footing before nearly falling. Once both of our arms were extended, I twirled her back into my chest, and slowly dipped her back slightly. One hand holding hers, the other arm wrapped round her waist securely. I leaned over her. My head inches away from hers. My lips centimeters away from hers; I stared into her glistening brown eyes. They illuminated their own source of sunlight in the rain as I basked in their beauty. Heat radiated off of both of our bodies, engulfing us in our own bubble, yet again. I barely even noticed the children around us laughing, running, dancing had multiplied. Apparently, the whole school joined in on our little jubilant rain party outside.Acting on impulse, I slowly closed the gap between us. Her eyes fluttered closed as our faces drew nearer. She didn’t move away or try to snake out of my grasp. So I took that as a good sign. But, I was still tentative about her and how she felt. At the last moment, I moved my lips up to gently kiss her forehead as she let out a doeful sigh of ecstasy.

“Jade! Jade! Jay?!” a voice not too far off called to us. We both snapped our heads to the side in the direction of the voice. To our surprise, we were greeted with Scarlett approaching, her eyebrows raised in suspicion. I quickly returned Jade to her standing position beside me as Scarlett drew nearer.

“Why, hello you two. What’re you two up to?” she surveyed us questionably.

Before we even had a chance to answer or explain ourselves, of course the boys chose this time to come up to us as well. They came up to me and knowingly nudged my sides, raising their eyebrows expressively. Before my whole body flushed with embarrassment, Scarlett managed to divert some of the attention away from Jade and I. She grabbed Liam and Harry’s hands, tugging them along as she said, “Come on, boys, show me those infamous One Direction dance moves.” They kindly followed her orders, meeting her challenge as I followed a few feet behind. I walked a couple feet then turned around and waited for Jade, who once again, seemed to be lost in the recesses of her mind.
