ASCELLA SPENT THE NEXT TWO WEEKS or so alternating between the Burrow and her own home, the comfort sensation of her bedroom and familiar walls of the Laurent Manor too prominent to push down any longer. It also gave her a break from the tense confines in which she was forced to share with Harry, allowing herself a break from the suffocating atmosphere she was drowning in.
She'd learnt that Sirius had moved in with them also, having had no desire to return to Grimmauld Place, since he was now a free man, and had all the privilege in the world to do what he pleased, and go where he wanted to. When Ascella had known of her new occupant in her home, she found it almost humorous.
"And is a certain werewolf living with us too?" she had wondered with a sly smirk, paying no mind to Sirius' red cheeks and disgruntled expression, as she had set the table.
"Piss off," Sirius had grumbled, storming off and muttering something about 'needing a nap' before dinner. She was right, though — Remus had been living with her mother and Sirius since the beginning of summer, deeming it important to stay with one another, especially as Voldemort rose to more power.
It would have been a happy, peaceful holiday had it not been for the stories of disappearances, odd accidents, even of deaths now appearing almost daily in the Prophet. Sometimes Bill and Mr. Weasley brought home news before it even reached the paper. It would have been a tranquil evening, one of the very few left until they returned to Hogwarts, if not marred with the downcast revelations of Remus and Sirius, who had come to see Harry rather frequently before the departure to Hogwarts.
"There have been another couple of dementor attacks," Remus announced, as Mrs. Weasley passed him and Sirius a plate of food. "And they've found Igor Karkaroff's body in a shack up north. The Dark Mark had been set over it — well, frankly, I'm surprised he stayed alive for even a year after deserting the Death Eaters; Regulus only managed a few days as far as I can remember, right, Sirius?"
