WHEN ASCELLA FINALLY WOKE, her mother was silently crying beside her bed.
Groggily, Ascella peeled her eyes open, wincing as the glare from the sun burned her retinas and caused her to groan in pain. Seraphina Laurent's head snapped up at the sound which emitted from her daughter, and her tears ceased as a spark of hopefulness shot through her.
"Ascella?" Seraphina questioned, and two more figures in the background - Sirius and Remus — darted up too. "Darling? Can you hear me?"
Ascella hummed quietly, her eyes still locked shut. "Yeah," she murmured. "It's so bright in here."
Seraphina raised her wand and the blinds in the Infirmary shut down with a bang, and Ascella grimaced at the sharp pain shooting through her mind at the sound. "Is that better?" Seraphina wondered, her mellow voice gentle.
"Tons," Ascella whispered, her eyelids fluttering open. Her stormy gaze flitted over to Sirius and Remus, and she smiled while remarking sarcastically, "I'm not dead, you know. I always snap back."
Remus chuckled while Sirius nods, his eyes bloodshot, "I know. You almost were, though."
"What happened?" Ascella asked, her mind hazy. "The last thing I remember was Snape leaving after me and Harry fought him. How long has it been?"
"A couple of days," Seraphina informed her. "Your body needed time to recuperate, so Madam Pomfrey put you in a magically-induced coma. You've come out of quicker than expected. You're going to be okay."
