No One's POV

At midnight, Marinette awoke with a start. She realized she was no longer cuddling with Adrien but clutching a pillow instead. "Adrien?" she whispered into the darkness. No response. Marinette slipped out of bed and tip-toed across the room. The bathroom door was ajar and the light was on.

"Adrien?" she called softly, pushing the door open. The bathroom was empty. Marinette felt a knot of worry forming in her stomach. Where did he go in the middle of the night without telling her?

She quickly threw on a sweater over her pajamas and slid her feet into slippers. Marinette crept downstairs, glancing around for any sign of Adrien. The house was dark and silent. Making her way to the front door, Marinette hesitated. Should she go outside and look for him? What if something bad had happened? Just as she reached for the doorknob, she heard a noise behind her. Marinette whirled around to find Adrien standing there holding a small cake with lit candles.

"Surprise!" he exclaimed. "Happy birthday, Marinette!"

Marinette laughed with relief. "My birthday isn't until next week, you goofball. You nearly gave me a heart attack sneaking off like that!"Adrien smiled sheepishly. "I know, but I wanted to be the first one to wish you a happy birthday this year. It really means a lot to me."

Marinette shook her head, smiling back at him. "You're welcome, Adrien. This was really sweet of you." She blew out the candles and they shared the cake, talking and laughing together into the early hours of the morning.

Adrien's POV

I can't believe I just surprised Marinette for her early birthday like that. Seeing the look of shock and then joy on her face made that midnight cake totally worth it. I know I scared her at first by disappearing from our slumber party without saying anything, but I wanted it to be a true surprise.

Now we're sitting together on the couch eating this cake I managed to secretly bake earlier today. Marinette looks so cute with her bedhead hair and ladybug-patterned pajamas. I wish I could just blurt out how I really feel about her, but I don't want to jeopardize our amazing friendship.

Still, I can't help but feel hopeful every time I catch her looking at me with that sweet smile. The way she laughs at my silly jokes makes my heart skip a beat. Maybe one day I'll actually work up the nerve to tell Marinette how much of a crush I have on her. For now, I'm happy to just enjoy these kinds of perfect moments together, no matter how late at night it is. Being here with her is always the best part of my day.

As Marinette yawns and rests her head on my shoulder, I feel like the luckiest guy in the world. She makes me feel so comfortable, cared for, and understood - feelings I rarely get to experience at home. I wish this night would never end. The warmth of Marinette next to me, the twinkling lights of the Paris skyline outside the window, the sweet taste of birthday cake - everything about this midnight surprise is magical.

My mind wanders as I imagine gathering up the courage to finally confess my true feelings to Marinette. What if she felt the same way? We could start dating, go on romantic picnics together, visit the Eiffel Tower at sunset...all the dream dates I've imagined us having.
Of course, there's also a chance she just sees me as a friend. As much as that would hurt, having Marinette in my life as my best friend is still so special. I'll never forget this magical midnight birthday surprise and the way her eyes lit up when she saw me with that cake. One day, I'll find a way to tell her how I really feel. For now, I'm just so grateful to have her in my life.
