"What?" I voice my thoughts.

"I mean.. I want to have you as a friend."

"A friend?" I question, my brows coming together.

"Or more.." he adds and my mouth falls open. "Just kidding," he smiles but I don't find it funny.

"I'm still confused? What exactly do you want from me... as a friend?"

"Well, I.. I just don't want that awkwardness between us. Defining our relationship like this will help the both of us. I don't want to have you as my enemy so knowing you're a friend will relieve me."

He's right, defining our relationship is very important. Now that I know I'm a friend and nothing more to him, I won't be kissing him anymore.. I hope.

"What about yesterday? Why did you snap when I asked one harmless question?"

"I don't think we should discuss that now." His tone is different and it makes me curious. "Why don't we talk about this novel?" He quickly changes the subject.

"I didn't know you read," I play along regardless.

"Didn't like it at first but my brother liked it a lot, so did my grandfather, they made me understand the emotions."

"You? Emotions?" I almost laugh but I just can't find the joy.

"Why do you say it like I'm some kind of emotionless being?" He sits and I join him.

"Because you are, duh."

"You aren't allowed to duh at me," he gives me a small teasing smile. "I have lots of emotions. This book is just one of the minor books in the library, read Strange Earth, the novel is really good."

"Oh, I saw that book on the shelf when I grabbed this. I read the back. You read romance?"

He shrugs. "I read all the genres. The only genre I don't go for is fan fiction. You won't see a smudge of my highlighter on those books."

"Your highlighter? You marked these?" I ask, unable to believe it. It has to be a lie.

"Every word." He confirms and I almost scream with excitement. I'm impressed but I don't say.

"Mm." I nod.

"What does Mm mean?" He smiles but I don't.

"It means okay," I shrug.

"Not impressed?" He smiles wider. His teeth are perfect.

"Nope," I lie.

"I know you are, I'll just let this one roll off my back."

He smiles but I don't, "So, I'm guessing you're one of those crazy love fans. That believe in fucked up love stories and all that shit."

"Yeah, you can say I like reading romance and I feel like it's nice, but I don't believe all that stuff happens in reality." I shrug. "I like the idea but I know it can only happen in a place where men actually care about women's emotions.. that place can never be in this world."

"Hmm," he smiles. "Impressive. You're the first girl I've seen who actually doesn't believe that shit exists."

"I'm also quite shocked. I had no idea you were into novels."

"I guess we are both full of surprises." He nods.

"Sure.. Bruce."

My eyes are on his as his smile disappears. His eyes are focused on my lips and makes my stomach flutter. I want to say his name again. I love the way his eyes make me feel and I want him to push me over the edge.
