【︎ Sorry Haha I Fell Asleep - Egg 】︎
◁◁ 〡︎〡︎ ▷▷Digging through my clothes, I felt the stress of not looking like a hobo seeping in. I didn't have much time to get ready. My hands threw clothes left and right looking for something, anything to wear.
Eclipse sat on my bad meowing at me, seeming to understand that this was madness. Being judged by a cat. That was a new low for me. I looked around for a second. My room was covered almost complete by clothes and tired, I let out a defeated sigh.
Eclipse hopped from my bed to rub against my legs as if to comfort me. I crouched down and began to pet his fluffy black fur. Trying to regain my energy. I was wasting precious time but right now I didn't care too much. After a minute or two of calming down through cat pets, I felt ready to tackle the outfit situation again.
Either cats fix everything or Eclipse is just just magical, but either way I managed to find my outfit in a matter of seconds. I took his satisfied purrs as approval of my outfit. I quickly rush to fix my makeup, fix my hair, put on some boots and quickly look in the mirror to make sure I didn't look insane.
(I really like refs, so expect to see those more often. I'm sorry if they bother you.)
I walked to the kitchen, Eclipse following close behind, his meows becoming more and more desperate.
"Yeah, yeah E. I'm working on it, I promise." I refilled his food bowl, before rushing back to my bag. I packed only a few things. My phone, the key to my apartment, and a thing of pepper spray. Despite Ash swearing up and down that she knew the guy who was throwing the party, when asked who he was, she didn't really know much besides "he used to be in my classes during senior year. He seemed pretty cool". You could never be too safe.
I sighed and left my apartment, heading towards the elevator. Ash said Larry lived in the basement, right? Yeah. I found it strange but I didn't question it.
I went inside the elevator, quickly heading to the basement. Anything to get out of that elevator. If you told me it was haunted, I would believe you. From the old lights to the off smell, it was like someone was haunting the Janitor and not letting them clean it.
Once the doors opened I hurried out of there, I didn't want to spend more time in that gross elevator than I had to. I knocked on the door to Larry's apartment and awaited an answer. I was met by Ash who welcomed me in with a grin, "You look so cute!"
"Aww thanks Ash, you too!" Out of the corner of my eye, I could spot Larry. Surprisingly he didn't change too much. He was still a lanky man with long chestnut brown hair that almost went past his waist. His dark brown eyes seemed tired, though that wasn't anything new. He always seemed like that. He walked over, and immediately I felt like I was standing next to a tree. He towered over me. Closer up I could see some tattoos running down his arms, some getting cutoff by his sanity falls shirt.
"Hey, Y/n." He waved, holding his hand up a little too long. Looking at his bloodshot eyes and the strange smell lingering throughout the apartment, I could get a good guess on why that was. But out of politeness, I simply ignored it and smiled.
"Hey Larry. How are you?"
"Pretty good, and you?"
"Yeah, I'd say I'm alright." I looked at Ash for help. Larry was a nice guy but damn was it difficult to talk to him. I felt too awkward to hold a proper conversation and Larry seemed too out of it really think of what else to say.
I suppose I wasn't the only one able to recognize the strange tension. Larry stood there for a second, trying to figure out what say next when he turned to Ash. "Ready to go?" She nodded, pulling out her phone and calling an uber.
Waiting, leaving, getting in the uber; throughout all of it I got a glimpse of the friendship that the two still had. Suddenly I felt like I was back in high school, listening to the two talk during art class. Every once in a while they would ask me something before going back to each other, cracking jokes like I wasn't really there. I didn't really mind. I was familiar with not participating much in a conversation. And since we were going to a party, something very much outside my comfort zone, familiarity was all I wanted right now.
It didn't take long for us to reach the party, each of us piling out of the car. I examined the outside of the house. A few people were smoking and talking and as we got closer to the front door, we could hear the loud party inside. Once we entered, the chaos was hard to get through.
Ash grabbed my hand and then Larry's, an attempt to keep the group together. Between the blaring music and the people shouting, I could hardly hear myself think. Being stuck in the middle of the crowd, I was almost certain I was going to be there for the entire night had Ash not been holding onto my hand and pulling my arm so hard that she was going to rip them off. I understood she was just trying to make sure I don't drown in the people but boy did it hurt. Once we reached the kitchen, the noise was just a little quieter. Not as many people were in here. I looked out at the sea of people we swam through and took it in.
Larry looked around, for a second. "I don't see him." He told Ash, raising his voice slightly. My confusion must've been pretty obvious because the second Larry looked over he clarified, "Our friend, you'll love him."
"I don't think he's here yet, he did say he was going to be a bit." Ash yelled back. It didn't take long for her to shrug it off and go get us drinks. I tried to ignore how many people were here, but that was hard when everyone was screaming, laughing, and poorly singing.
Despite the loud noises there was an awkward silence between me and Larry. We both weren't sure what to say, we didn't exactly know each other. I could talk to Ash just fine because she knew how to properly hold a conversation, she knew what to say next. Her head was always filling with questions. But Larry wasn't the same way, at least not when he was high. Eventually Ash came back and I let out a sigh of relief. Suddenly the party was bearable again.
