◁◁ 〡︎〡︎ ▷▷I don't think I've ever been so sad after waking up. When I woke up, I found that I was alone in Sal's room, now with a pillow where Sal was. I was too tired to open my eyes yet, my hands feeling the area beside me to try and figure out if he was truly gone. To my disappointment, me was most certainly was no longer there.
I sat up, stretching my arms a bit before taking on the difficult task of standing up. As I made my way to the living room I noticed Sal's prosthetic on the table. I debated going any further. I wanted so badly to see him without his mask but I had enough common sense to know that it would only be invading his privacy to seek that out without him even knowing. I turned around, walking back to his room. I was prepared to sleep in my sadness and disappointment that covered me and seeped into my skin.
As I reached his door, I heard some movement coming from the couch. I didn't think much about it and just decided to slip into his room, closing the door behind me. I flopped down on the bed and suddenly it was less comfortable with Sal no longer in it. I reached for the pillow I had been resting my head on and pulled it close to me. I gave it a tight hug, slowly loosing my grip as I got more and more tired. That's when the door opened.
Sal entered, slowly walking to the bed. I was too tired to care how he felt about me hugging his pillow. He adjusted his mask, as he sat done beside me
"Good morning." His voice was quiet and raspy from just waking up.
"Good morning." I said into the pillow, a small chuckle escaping his lips in response.
"How did you sleep?"
Besides the utter betrayal of you leaving it was like heaven.
"Wonderfully. Not sure how you don't just spend all your time in bed." I moved my head to the side to try and get him to hear me a little better.
"Oh, I do. It's the comfiest place in my house and you don't think I spend all my time there?" He joked.
"Ok, yeah. Fair point." I giggled. "What about you? How did you sleep?"
"Eh, not absolutely amazing like you but it was fine. I can't complain much."
"You could've stayed here, y'know." I spoke quietly, the tiredness that came with being flustered just by the presence of Sal mixing with my half-asleep brain. His eyes widened slightly as he processed what I had just said.
"Well...I..." he seemed sort of flustered, beginning to talk how I usually do when I'm around him. It was kind of adorable.
"I mean, you didn't have to if you weren't comfortable with that, of course."
"No, no. I was- I just...didn't think you would want me there."
Wrong, try again.
I couldn't think of what else to say. Let me rephrase that. I didn't know how to tell him I did want him there without making it clear that I loved him.
"Why would you think that?" I asked, propping myself up on the pillow I was hugging.
"I don't know...I just assumed...it because..." he stayed quiet, flopping down onto his back. I leaned over him like he had done to me the night before. It's always difficult to tell what someone is thinking, but it's even more difficult when all you can see is their eyes.
