When Christmas Break was over, I should have gone to school like I usually would. When Mama walked Ricky and I to the bus stop, and off we went. But this time it was different. There was no bus, no mama. Just Ricky and I walking through the frigid streets of our town. As we reached school, I felt like I didn't belong. All my friends were there, but no one welcomed me back, or asked how I was. Not even Skie. Now that hurt, and it hurt real bad. I guess they were trying to play it cool and act like everything's the same. But I know it's not, I know I'm in a wheelchair, I know I can barely walk, I know how I feel. They don't. It's not okay, and it never will be. I just wanted to scream!! Ricky saw in my eyes that something was wrong, so he calmed me down and told me it would be okay. This is why I love my brother, he always knows what to say and how to cheer me up. So in we went. Into a new building, with new teachers, new classrooms, new halls, and new people.
"Hey Skie."
"Hey Dana how ya feeling?"
Finally someone realized this is reality.
"great actually! Mama and Ricky are trying to help me walk again. But i feel like I'm Lila learning to walk."
"hahaha well that's good! Are you ready for your first day?"
"yeah definitely!!! But I don't know any of my classes or rooms!!"
"Don't worry Dana... I requested we have all the same classes together! Isn't that great!"
"It's fantastic!!!"
And that's when the bell rang. Off to Algebra we went.
