It was almost time to start the upcoming spring softball season, and I really wanted to try out. But I haven't picked up a bat or glove since that Championship game. Tryouts were this Thursday and Friday, and I was going to go just to watch. Peter and I had been talking the other day, about the tryouts.
"I think you should try out."
"I never could. It's been months! And with my leg? Do you know how much running we have to do?"
"if you want to sit on the bench, go ahead. But I bet you'd rather play then watch."
This was true. I always hated when Coach Liz had benched me. I was the best girl on that team, and she knew that, I was playing at a college level! There was no better Left Fielder than me!
"maybe I'll go. But I'm scared I might hurt myself even more."
"I swear I will never let that happen to you."
"I love you Peter."
"I love you Dana."
After that, we just sat there. Sat and watched the soccer teams practice. I think he was waiting for me to say something. At the same time, I was waiting for him to say something too. But the only talking there was, was the soccer coaches yelling at their teams. We had to be sitting there for at least three hours, because by the time we left there was absolutely no one there. So we left. We walked home together in complete silence, until we reached my door.
"I'm proud of you Dana. You're going to go out there and kill those other girls trying out. I know it."
"thanks. I'm proud of myself too. I just hope my mom says l can. I will die if she doesn't."
"good luck. I love you babe. Goodnight."
"love you too. Night."
